I asked for a discount before buying and was offered $200 Deductable for 5 yrs./100K miles for $2015. & 5 yrs/90K miles for $1780! What prices are you hearing? (Crew, 4x4, loaded!) I just wanted major protection against "big bills" like an transmission failure. I can afford the 1st $200.

Sounds like it's better to buy the truck and wait for a better deal in the mail! I'd like to get an 84/84 for a good price! I think they want to get the Red Tag money back at the stealership!

You might want to read the fine print. The extended warranty takes the place of your normal factory warranty. So if you buy a 5 year/50K its really 5 years and 50K from the time you buy.

You can get killer deals on GM Warrantys on the net, some dealers sell them for 100 bucks over cost. It doesn't matter where or *WHEN* you buy them as long as the truck is still under the 3/36K. So wait till you have 35K then buy one.

If you find a cheap warranty and are not familiar with the name, always ask who their underwriter is. Several states still do not require underwriters and that is where you get the horror stories of the warranties that didn't pay. 2 guys with a computer can print nice brochures and offer great prices on the net, because they always have an excuse when its time to pay. A reputable warranty with solid coverage should cost you about $1200-$1500 range (or more if you like):).

Has anyone bought an extended warranty from American Mercury Insurance Group? I got a quote on-line, bumper to bumper 84 Month/100,000 miles, 0 deductible for $1967. Seems like a pretty good deal to me but I have never heard of American Mercury. The quote actually came from AutoWarrantyBroker.com.

Anyone have any experience with American Mercury Insurance Group or AutoWarrantyBroker.com with an extended warranty?

Where do you get quotes on the net! The GM site just sends you back to a dealer. Did you just contact GM dealers finance managers, or are they websites! I'd like to get a good price on an 84/84!

The LBZ engine comes with a 100,000 mile/5 year warranty from the factory. The rest of the truck, including the Allison tranny, is 3 year/ 36,000 miles. I bought a 72 month/72,000 mile GM Major Guard warranty for $1,350.00 with a $200.00 deductible. It's true that I work at the dealership and got a great price, but a knowing customer can get this same price, too. It's true that the extended warranty doesn't kick in until the original expires and I really paid for a warranty that will actually go 36 months and 36,000 miles beyond the factory warranty, but when you think that an "out of warranty" Allison trans goes for about $9,000.00, it's a bargain. For my 2 cents worth, I will only buy a factory warranty. I did a short stint as a service writer, and there were more than a few people who bought cheaper extended warranties from who knows who, and when they needed to submit a claim, they found out that the warranty company was bankrupt and out of business. I imagine there are some good ones out there, but for my money, I'd always choose factory. I hope this was of some help...Carmine

The GMPP warrantys are good anywhere in the US, Canada and Mexico. Plus you can go to any GM dealership and get the warranty work done, like a GMC dealership can do work on Chevys and get paid for the claims. Also remember usually the prices go up every year so waiting only cost you more money in the long run. Waiting can be good for the guy who does not know how long he is going to keep his truck, you can wait till 35 months or 35000 miles to make a purchase, most people know by then how long you are going to keep the truck. GMPP can be canceled with a prorated refund of some sort if I recall right. Like some of the others said you can buy them from any GM dealership you choose.

Yep!!! If you ordered and Extended Warranty call back and ask them about it. Then Cancel it and get your money back. Gee, I wonder why we call them Stealerships? They sell you something that you already have!

There are some Corvette Dealers that give the Vette guys Warrantys at basically cost. I'll ask around later today and see where they get them, I know a few people that have bought them this way. Some dealers figure if they can sell 10 warranties for 100 bucks over cost they make more money than waiting for a sucker to come in and buy one at retail.

Like I said, I won't buy mine till I'm at the 35K or 2 Year 11 Month mark.

For those like me getting a new LBZ, some more info.

I was offered: $200 deductable on 4x4 Crew Duramax:

60/75k = $1415
72/90k = $2090
84/84k = $2500

Couldn't push them any lower!

Buying 36/36 at the end of my original 36/36 which would be be like buying a 72/72 and would cost $1835 without price increases or $120 more plus price increase over three years. I don't know if GM would offer a better price in that mail after 30 months of the original 36/36. Dealer also said you have to get add on policy before 33 Mo./33k miles now!
