American Axle is going on strike, and it will affect the Fort Wayne Assembly plant:

...GM spokesman Tom Wickham said the world’s No. 1 automaker hoped for a quick resolution to the strike. He said production at the Fort Wayne plant, which makes the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, was expected to stop after Thursday’s second shift.

Bad news for some, but shouldn't affect the Dmax folks unless it goes beyond Fort Wayne. From what I understand all the Dmax trucks are assembled in Flint, MI and Pontiac, MI.

American Axle makes ALL axles for the larger GM trucks. This will affect ALL truck assembly plants.

Heard on the morning news that one shift of assembly has been cancelled due to the American Axle strike this morning. Diamler-Chrysler reports production will be curtailed next week if it continues.

Another aspect of this is employee moral and job changes. I work for GM and when a plant in Michigan went on strike during the summer of 1997 it affected nearly everyone at our plant. First of all they offer temp lay-off's (TLO) to high seniority and work their way down until they get the number they need. Then they have to shift the remaining persons around to fill in for lost workers. Most of these people are now doing jobs they have never done before with very little or any training. Many people have attitude's because either they aren't doing their regular job or they wanted a TLO. This isn't a complaint about the workers. The majority of people anywhere don't like change. God I hope my truck is done!

BigfOOt,
You might be OK yet. My order was placed 5 days ahead of you and my dealer got the VIN the beginning of the week. Yours could be done or close to it. Hopefully there will be enough axle's on hand to get yours done. Good luck.
