: detuned lly
nick04duramax 12-20-2005, 06:05 PM I was wondering if anyone knows if you can get a detuned lly? My boss is considering buying some duramax work trucks. I know when I ordered my lb7 you could get like a 250 horse power version, like the new vans have.

Why would you want a detuned version?
You can get the info on available engines at the GMC websites below:
(Chevy should be comparable)
Light duty Trucks
Sierra 1500/2500/3500
http://www.gmc.com/sierra/index.jsp
Medium Duty Trucks
TopKick 4500/5500/6500/7500/8500
http://www.gmc.com/mediumduty/topkick/index.jsp
Savana Vans

According to this website the Duramax Diesel is available ONLY in the Cargo Van. (250 hp / 460 lb-ft Torque)
nick04duramax 12-20-2005, 07:49 PM Me a detuned truck!!!! No way, my boss wants the trucks detuned so our drivers don't tear them up. I went to build and price on chevrolets site before I posted, but I didn't see the below 300 horsepower rating as an option.
jalanrr 12-21-2005, 12:10 AM Possibly a little overkill... http://www.pacificp.com/cgi-bin/cat/DMIN.html
Trippin 12-21-2005, 12:34 AM How about EFILive and then detune them your self.

davidjkeller 12-21-2005, 01:24 AM I haven't been on here a long time, but it seems to me you have the wrong site. I don't think anyone here know anything about reducing power.:ro)

The lowest horsepower rating available on the 6600 V-8 Duramax in a 2006 pickup truck is 300 HP with a manual 6-speed tranny. You can get an early 2006 LLY with 310 HP and the 6-spd Allison tranny, but you have to find one on a dealer lot because it is no longer being made. The 6600 V-8 Duramax in the Cargo Van is rated at 250 HP/460 Lb-Ft. You can get a 7800 7.8L 6-cyl Duramax engine with a lower HP rating and higher torque if you go to the 6500 Medium Duty or higher, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.
Good Luck!
nick04duramax 12-21-2005, 10:45 PM thanks for the replies guys, It was more of a coriosity question more than anything.
briano 12-21-2005, 10:48 PM maybe they would be happier with the 6.0 gassers power.. but wave bye bye to gas mileage!!
DURAtotheMAX 12-21-2005, 10:50 PM I suppose you could unplug the fuel pressure regulator...then the truck would stay in limp mode with a 2000 RPM limit!! :) But otherwise, I would jsut leave it stock...you cant really hurt anything stock unless you drive it off a cliff.

haha that was a great description!!! funny!
MikeW2500 12-22-2005, 12:12 PM If the guys are that bad, I would buy gasoline trucks. They are quite a bit cheaper to repair, and with diesel prices as high as they are, the cost-per-mile would be close to that same. The initial investment would be about $8k less for each truck too. And if they bring it back with the rods sticking out of the side of the block, it won't be as big of an issue.
JKitterman 12-22-2005, 01:36 PM If you are looking at needing DRW just go to the W-series trucks. They have diesel options and a decent size range.
BarryD 12-23-2005, 06:32 AM You could buy a Predator and reduce the top speed of the trucks. If I was letting "employee's" drive around in D/A's I would want to put a leash on the trucks too. I've raced a couple of the town's trucks that are D/A's.
It's funny to pull up beside a city truck with weed wackers and lawn mowers in the bed and the guy gives you the nod. Thank goodness the guy straps everything down.
