I am getting ready to replace my engine in my 93 with the engine out of a 96; is this a major change other than the the fuel pump. I want to stay with the mechanical pump versus the electronic pump. Feedback will be appreciated!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Jeffery, if I were you I would stay with the mechanical pump. You would have a whole lot more dependable truck! I have a 93 with 200k on it and it's still a daily driver to the tune of 100 miles+ a day.I put a set of injectors and a pump on it at 180k. My 95 suburban 6.5 has not been as dependable, although with some FSD mods it has improved.I would look into getting a 18:1 long block with a mechanical pump and the 97 cooling mods.

nothing difficult at all.........the 96 block if it has casting # 506 is way more likely to crack than your original 599 or 2929 block. keep the motor out of your 93 for a rebuild.
