I have a new LBZ :ro)CC short bed with the 26 gallon tank. After using about 21 gallons, my fuel gauge show bone dry and the DIC shows LOW for range left. Is this normal or do I need my dealer to check it out? :help:

the 26 gal. is aproximate and the dic shows low when you go below 40 miles to empty. so when it goes to low you would have approx. 3-5 gallons left depending on your average mpg.

It's a little on the high side, but this reading is all over the map on DMaxes, some have a bunch of "reserve" and others are on fumes at the empty mark. My 2001 LB7 takes just over 24 gallons in the 26 gallon tank at the low fuel light.

Mine has 6 gallons left when the gas guage is right on the empty mark. DIC says I've used 28.7 gallons. I have the long bed with the 34 gallon tank.

As long as you know what it is you're ok. My '05 is about like yours, my '03 would go about 7 miles when the low fuel light came on - not funny!

I've used about 23 when the DIC reads "Range Low". I think the light comes on when I've used 20 or 21. Most I've ever put in is 23.4. Put in over 21 about 8 times.

I usually don't let my tank run below the 1/2 mark, but I've been slack'n, I have the longbed 34 gal tank. I'm down at the 1/4 mark on the gauge and my DIC says 18 gals used. Does the Predator effect what the DIC shows on the gallons used?

I believe it does. The DIC uses distance and fuel used to calculate average MPG.

Predator should not DIRECTLY impact the range reading, other than that the system uses fuel remaining (as measured by the sending unit) and bounces that off of an MPG figure to calculate range, however, THAT MPG figure is not the same as the one displayed on the DIC. On a full tank, I almost always have a range of 350 or 370 (don't recall exactly), which calcs out to 15.4mpg based on burning 24 gallons. As the tank is consumed, if I "trust" the fuel used on the DIC and subtract that from 24, I've seen range readings based on as low as 12mpg.

you should consider yourself lucky... ever run out of diesel trying to get to a station... its not pretty :-( but my gauge works the same way as urs, i have a CC 8' bed.

The most fuel I have put into my tank is aobut 22.5 gallons and my low ful light had probably been on for nearly 20 miles and the range said LOW.

I have a short bed with the 26 gal tank and I have to say that I'm getting sick of filling my tank already. 22 useable gallons is just not acceptable on a vehicle that gets a best of about 17mpg. (12 pulling) so I'm already looking at the Fluid Transfer 45 gallon replacement tank and maybe even a 100 gallon bed tank.

I want to be able to go from Elkhart, IN to the Gulf Coast without stopping!!!!

Supertanks used to carry the 75 gallon tank which I put in my 01 LB7 and loved it. I drove from San Francisco, CA to San Antonio, TX on one tank, then drove from San Antonio to Muskegon, Michigan on the next tank. I know when I get my LBZ I am picking up the 62 or 65 gallon tank from them when they finally get the rock shield completed. I know with 350 miles on a tank would not get me through Canada on a winter drive going to Alaska. Gas stations that MIGHT be open are few and far between.

Just filled my first tank full on my new Truck (long bed). It was on 1/8 when I filled up. It was not at all on empty yet, not on the red. No low fuel light yet either. It took 30.5 gallons, so I would say I am not going to have much of a reserve :( :(:(:( Got 17.8 MPG hand calculated and I had topped off the dealers fill when new. I am happy with that since I as not driving too easy. It was probably 75% freeway though.

This is partly a product of maintaining capacity for fuel cooling, and partly a product of the lack of a distinctive sump. If you were to look at the depth of the fuel level in that tank at the low fuel light and then slosh the fuel in the tank rearward, you'd see why.

It's much better to give early warning than to let you run out...
