Yup, im 99.9999% sure the 2006 LLY and 2006 LBZ intakes are identical.

06 LLY and LBZ appearances and internals are identical. only the programming is different.

From what i've heard, you don't need an aftermarket intake for the 06's because the stock one is plenty good enough.

I think they are a waste of money on almost any vehicle. Very very little power gain.

The only reason I have one is cause it was cheap and I wanted the turbo whistle louder.:D

Did the turbo whistle get louder?

i blocked the air box on teh top that says 6.6 turbo diesel and you can hear the intake more along with the turbo whistle. i want to yank the cat off to hear more of the turbo though :(

Funny you mention this. I have a freind with a 6.0 ford and his Stage 2 AFE intake actually LOST power over the stock intake. I suspect it was due to the MAF calibration. Personally I have a hard time seeing how a small company can compete with Hitachi (who makes the GM and many aftermarket mass air meters) on the design and calibration of mass air meters. Basically you can't just pull the element from one tube and stick it another and have the same calibration. The size, bends in the tubing etc. all affect the accuracy which could lead to mismetering of the air which at least on a gas motor could create a lean condition.

I have battled MAF meters and calibration in the past on gas motors and I choose to NOT alter that component of the vehicle as long as I dont peg it with a big tune. Unfortunately on the 06's (and maybe the older vehicles as well, the MAF is built into the intake tube so any intake will change this.

I went with an AFE filter. I would recommend the same. The stock tubing if I'm not mistaken is 4" anyways so I think it would be really hard to improve on it without compromizing the MAF flow curve.

When AFE comes out with their stage 2 I will test it and report my findings.

Sorry to Hijack the thread.

I dont know about the LBZ but the LB7 dosnt take readings from the MAF sensor at WOT.

I'm keeping the stock airbox though ;)

I can't believe some of you would change your filters to aftermarket. This is by far more efficient than an afe of k&n. You guys need to realize the problems with the oiled gauze type filters on a turbocharged engine. They can actually pull the oil off the filter and it then proceeds to mess with your MAF. The donaldson filter element is supposed to be very good. My $.02

I heard of and thought about that, and came up with the conclusion a couple of $3.00 cans of air intake cleaner to clean out the oil and gunk from the tube (which I will do anyway)over the life of the truck is cheaper than 5 or 6 oem filters.

I agree there's a risk of oiling the MAF element, but there's no question that the Cotton K&N/AFE filters flow better than stock. Goto your local parts store and look at a K&N display. What more proof do you need?

It's kind of ironic that you mention this. Today I pulled a DTC P0101 code, which indicates "MAF Sensor Performance". My understanding is that it indicates high resistance. I guess I will be cleaning it tonight!

Has anyone seen an aftermarket intake for the 2006 LLY or LBZ? Second question if the 2006 LLY and LBZ are the same other than programming can the dealer reprogram my 2006 LLY to LBZ program?
