ECM is the same so it should be no problem, though I don't think it has 'actually' been done.

If you go with a efi live for a lly is there a need to also purchase a tech2?

well the reason i was asking is because we tryed a 03 4500 with a 170 horse bd intimidator and it erased the computer. bd said that the ecms are different and that is why i was wondering if this would work or not

As with the LLY version, the 2003 4500 still runs the same ECM code as the std trucks from 2003 so I cannot understand why it would not work.
Do you have access to the truck?, if so you could get the part numbers off the ECM and I can confirm for you if it is indeed different.

No need for a TechII, the scantool lets you view as many data parameters as a TechII. We will also be adding in shortly all the override commands TechII can do.

I have been logging with EFI-Live for the past few weeks and it IMHO does much more than a TECH II does, however a Tech II will address other things at the moment that EFI wont.

That is just for now, there will be many updates I am sure.

The next thing will hopefully be transmission controls.

ecc_33,

If you purchase EFILive from me and you find it is not to your liking, just return it to me, in like "new" condition and I will refund your money minus shipping. :D

Will EFILive ever be able to have the "special functions" features that a Tech 2 does? I love having the Tech 2 for things like radio VIN-relearns and Bose amplifier programming and such. Will EFILive ever be able to do this?

Well, probably not.
The idea of our scantool is to complement the tuning program as far as logging the same amount of data a TechII will do, not replace a TechII for all other functions like you asked for.

Ross

I think we could all live without the other TechII features, if we could just get some TCM control. :ro) :grd:

I'm with you Ben, I have neither of these and I'm not liking the fact if I want to play with different vehicles I have to buy a license for each one...

EFIlive Personal programming $699. + 3 more licenses @ $99. ea = $996.

Tech II tool used with full functions $1100.+

So far, I'd rather have the Tech II. With my collection of Vehicles (4 that would benefit from owning such a program or tool), I want to be able to use on all my vehicles + friends vehicles if I choose to do so.

What exactly do you plan on using a TechII for? Scanning 4 or more vehicles? Programming 4 or more vehicles? Keep in mind the TechII does not gain you access to the programming parameters that EFILive offers, not even remotely close. keep in mind the ONLY time that a license will be used or locked to a VIN # is when you program or write to an ECM, otherwise EFILive will scan or read an unlimited number of vehicles as long as they are supported. IMHO, for those that are interested in tweaking their own truck, $699 is the biggest bang for the buck to date, period, and $99 per license is an absolute steal and worth every last penny! You have more than $699 in you Juice, EGR blocker, and BS, why not sell that stuff and redirect the funds to EFILive? :)

For anyone on the fence, go to EFILive, download the software and have a look around, it's free to look. Then ask around, I'm sure someone will send you some scan data and or a stock calibration file to review. EFILive may not be for everyone, however, if you like to tweak parameters and are considering buying it, at least do some research before making decisions.

Correct, best you can do with TechII is program in factory only tunes from the SPS CD's, but that costs an additonal $1K for that option above the purchase price of TechII.

Ross

I think I should open mouth and insert foot now... I see now (after reading further) what the EFI Live is all about. I didn't realize you could program engine parameters directly. That blows all other tuners out of the water! And possibly change shift points, etc. with the Alli?! So much more I need to catch up on about EFI Live. Please accept my apologies. At first I thought it was another "monitor" that could change a couple things around... How wrong I was.

Will there be basic programs to choose from as a base to get one started?
I'll leave with that question only.

On another note... The Tech II I saw sold for $1165.00 was at a local dealer auction.

$3000. - $4000. for a Tech II! OUCH! Is that new or used prices? I should have bid on the other one.

Ask our one of our resellers (http://www.efilive.com/resellers.html), they may be able to help you out there.
EFILive is not shipped with any tunes to get you going.

$3K is new, but that is with some options, including the CAN bus interface. A used one with all those options you would be looking closer to $2,000 - $2500.

Ross

Grab the next Tech 2 you see at that price if it has a current GM 32mb card and you could double your money. :D

I'll be happy to get you started tuning. After your purchase, download your stock file and send it to me. I'll make a few changes and send it back.

Thanks Trippin... I take it you're one of the vendors? Cool, I'll have to wait until after the holidays and see how thin my wallet is.

Question, Do I copy my stuff with all tuners removed (in other words stock)?

I will D/L the trial and check it out when I get home this morning and try to familiarize myself with it this weekend.

Yes Trippin sells the EFI software/hardware.

You will want to send him a stock file for him to build a tune with.

I prefer to have your stock tune. So if you have any thing that has flashed the PCM, just put it back to stock before you download the tune you are going to send me. If your only using the Juice, then there is no need to remove it until your ready to run your new EFILive written tune. You can always stack your Juice with the one we write, to see what the differences are.

Oh, I almost forgot.....I'm your friendly neighborhood EFILive vendor. :D

Who will get my busness if my wife will ever quit spending money like it grows on trees. She told me yesterday that she has spent about $4,000 for Christmas gifts this year! Can you imagine how good my truck could run with that much money?:(

Coulda done that for you and no need to screw around with Ebay. Also could have updated it to latest software as they come delivered with 25.001.

I just started a new one and plan to sell my old one. Works fine, but the strain relief on the cable is cracked and a few keys are illegible due to the writing cracking.
