Im sure this has been asked already but I can't seem to find the exact answer. I won't lie, I searched but not too thoroughly.
I understand that tunes can be emailed to one another. Once the tune is recieved is it just loaded onto the EFI or do you go through the list and enter the various parameters in order to create an exact duplicate of the tune that someone else has created?

Just load the file in as you would as if someone sent you a Word document to view in Word. The only exception to this is if say someone Emailed you an LLY file and you have an LB7 you could certainly still view the LLY file but the software will not let you program an LLY file into an LB7, actually, it also checks you are not trying to flash a 2001 LB7 into a 2003 LB7 (as an example).

So are you saying you can you only go forwards but not backwards with the software? Newer loaded software can't be overwritten by older software. For example if someone with an 03 wanted certain parameters of an 01 they couldn't do this? Post #15 http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53273

There is two options for programming the ECM.
1 - Program only the calibrations in the ECM, that takes approx 30secs for LB7 and 45secs for LLY. This is ONLY updating the calibrations area of the flash chip, therefore it is critical that the same 'revision' of GM's calibration set be programmed in. The reason we have the check is to make sure you don't try to program an 01 with 03 etc is because you will end up with a door stop if it was to flash that in becuase the actual program running inside the ECM would be expecting the same revision of calibrations.
2 - Program the entire ECM, this is what TechII does, a total reflash of everything, this method can be used to update to later GM programs for the same engine type. This takes a little longer (2 - 3 mins).

so we will all need the same calibrations/flash updates inorder to swap tunes???
