: Should I, or shouldnt I
DURAMAXED03 02-25-2004, 07:26 PM Okay, so there I am, doing a big nasty burnout...I let off the pedal suddenly and then there's a WUM...Wum....wum sound thru the exhaust pipe. Is this my boost that's been built up crashing back into my turbo causing damage (I am juiced so there's a bit more turbo boost)and if it is my boost do you think a blow-off valve is the answer to prolong my turbo's life when I'm going full blast then letting off quickly....Would love some opinions and also some links or info on where to purchase the product I need....Plus they sound pretty cool on my buddy's turbo'd GNX...Any and all info is greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance,
Mark
P.S. Any orlando, florida area people in here? I'd love to meet up with you
Max Power 02-25-2004, 07:40 PM It's likely your torque converter.
MonteCarlo31 02-25-2004, 11:47 PM Hey can't help with the problem but I am picking up a Dmax in may (when I start earning money) and Morse is from our area. Give US a PM we hit the track thursday nights. Morse's truck is dirt slow so it's easy to pick on him too....... hehe j/k Morse, let me know whats up with tomm night ok???
Lenny
Diesel Power 02-26-2004, 12:24 AM mine has made that same noise too when doing a burnout. i remember it before i got my tranny done but i don't have the money for tires so i haven't done any in a while :) i don't think it was the turbo as i didn't have much boost... TC would be my guess but i'm not the expert.
ratlover 02-26-2004, 09:39 AM sounds like turbo bark......probably not the best on it but I havent blown anything yet and it has happend a few times. Happens when you are making some good boost and let of the throttle fast.
It aint the trany IMO
Micheal Tomac 02-26-2004, 10:01 AM back off the throttle easy instead of quickly taking your foot off to prevent turbo bark
Max Power 02-26-2004, 10:23 AM I've had mine do it a few times when 4x'ing through snow. Heavy into the throttle, then back off and whoop whoop whoop. There was a video here of someone elses truck doing the same thing after coming out of a mud pit. Everyone concluded that that sound was the torque converter. It was the exact same sound mine makes. I also made my dad's 6.0L Ford do the same thing. His I could make it do it a lot easier.
Morse 02-26-2004, 10:36 AM Hey Mark.. As Lenny said we're not too far away... We do usually hit the track in Bradenton on Thurs nights.. If you have a local track you usually go to, I'd be up for meeting you there sometime... There's starting to be more and more diesel racers in this area.. It started out as just myself most of the time, to last weekend there were I believe five diesels there.. Still not many, though it's getting better.. Let me know.. My email is kysuprman@aol.com..
Brad
grasshopper 02-26-2004, 10:56 AM After a pull with the sled behind you, you will get the same sound, thats what you would call barkin the turbo, thats air being rushed back through your intake man, its hard on the turbo, but it happens, just try to slowly ease out of what ever your doing from now on! I'm not really sure who has a blow off valve for your turbo, But I know someone who has one coming on an aftermarket turbo!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

DURAMAXED03 02-26-2004, 01:25 PM So.....it's either my turbo or my converter. I'm leaning more towards the turbo cuz I can hear the sound coming out of the exhaust. Hmmm so no one knows about blow-off valves for diesels huh?
Brad, I'll email when I can come out and play. You should come up to Orlando. We have a helluva track up here. We have Sat. night fever from 10p-2a. some very...very cool cars and trucks. There's a Black Dodge dually with dual 6" stacks out there running almost 12 flat out there and my trucks isn't fast enough to REPRESENT Chevy.
Thanks for all the info gentlemen and I'll let you know if I come across anything groundbreaking.....
thanks mark
a64pilot 02-26-2004, 01:31 PM It would have to be a pretty big "sneeze" valve to work, I would think.
Max Power 02-26-2004, 01:44 PM I wish I could find that post. Does anyone remember it? It had a video, with a blue crew cab 03 GMC I think. I think the owner was from Canada, Saskatechewan IIRC. He was 4x'ing through some mud, turned around at the then and came back. I can't remember if the post was here or the page. I can't seem to find it by searching.
grasshopper 02-26-2004, 03:57 PM Hey man, I think it is definetly your turbo, if you contact HKS turbos, they have a blow off valve capable of 40psi and it can be put on any turbo, you might wanna check that out!!!
heartbeatcanada 02-26-2004, 04:04 PM Did it sound like this. If so that is your turbo "barking". Grasshopper described it up a couple of posts.

DURAMAXED03 02-26-2004, 04:11 PM that noise was exactly what mine made...HKS?!?! I'll check it out right now thanks guys tremendously
Got Juice? 02-26-2004, 04:15 PM HKS makes a SSQV (super sequential BOV ) for diesel's
As well, TIAL makes one that BD power uses in their kit for the dodge RAM
heartbeatcanada 02-26-2004, 04:17 PM Its not good for the turbo, but i've done it too many times to remember, actually with my set-up i can do it at will. My turbo is still going strong, so far. Though i'm waiting for an aftermarket turbo to be released, hopefully soon.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Max Power 02-26-2004, 04:31 PM That's the sound mine makes. You learn something new every day.
BMDMAX 02-26-2004, 04:42 PM It's the turbo. I get it occasionally when I am heating up the slicks. You have to try to ease out of the throttle to reduce the turbo bark.
It is not the tranny or TC.
grasshopper 03-01-2004, 08:56 AM No Man you nailed BMDMAX, its you turbo, can'y believe that this was the first post about this!!!! wierd, I know here when ever someone goes for a ride with the boss, theyare ALWAYS askin what that noise is!!! coool.
later

Super Diesel 03-05-2004, 03:09 AM Use caution on the burnouts. I trashed a turbo, then the C1 clutches with in a week of each other. I have a fully built trans and an altered PCM, so it was an expensive week. Remember this is the price we pay for having cutting edge super diesels. Life is great but it can hurt to.
