Has anyone ran the Edge on stage 4 or 5 with stock trans and exhaust? If so what was the out come? Mine runs really good on 3 and was going to wait until I got an exhaust before I try anymore power to it.

Yes.
Limp, limp, and limp (sounds like a Viagra camercial) .
It took me the third time to get my tranny upgrade done.
I know of only one on here that claims to have not limped his tranny while being on level 5, in full throtle, and going into 5th gear.

I've had the J/A for approx two years. I drive around in level 4 everyday and once in a while I'll put it in level 5. So far I haven't limped the tranny. I also tow a 11K 5th-wheel on level 2 a couple of time a month.

It depends what you use the truck for. I use mine for towing a 15K 5ver and run on level 2 in Tow/Haul. When driving without the 5ver around town and on freeways I stay in level 3. I have run on level 4 but I haven't tried to smoke the tranny. One year and no problems yet with 36K on the truck. Stock exhaust and no other upgrades other than EGT and Boost guages..If you are going to use it for racing you definately should save for the upgrade to the tranny. If you search around on this site you will find a lot of threads about limped tranny's and others who claim to have never limped them..Good luck..Jim

Stock tranny, 4" exhaust. I run on level 1 95% of the time, but have put in on 5 for "show" but damn the smoke!

I have a stock tranny, 4" exhaust and a K&N Intake. I run my Juice on level 1 90% of the time so that I can save some fuel to race all the pathetic little imports and show off. Level 5 runs a 1/4 in 15.2 at 97mph and 0-60 in 7 with 5 people in my truck. I just put mine in tow haul mode and WOT it! The smoke is sick with the dual exhaust! I have had the chip for 3 months now and I have never gotten it to slip. My buddy has the canadian edition DMax with the Juice with Attitude for 2 years and runs his on level 5 all the time with a stock tranny!

They say the crucial spot is the 4-5 shift at WOT. That is wherer it always slipped on me during WOT.

Dont quote me on this but I believe that the only damage done is to 4 & 5 (full throttle)
But if you are in level 5 you can launch hard off the line but when she starts to shift into 5th let off. And no damage will be done. I dont think any damage occurs to the 1st (tow/haul) 2nd and 3rd gear clutches.
and also I think if you defuel your shifts you can run WOT alot...not sure tho.

the 90HP level unloaded for a reliable long lived happy trans is the general concensus. Some get by with running higher but IMO over 90HP added and your playing with fire.

Aslo have the defule turned on for all locked shifts.

running in levels 4&5 with a stock tranny is hurting it. the tranny should only limp in 4-5th shift at WOT in levels 4&5. defuel helps but youre still hurting it. i 2nd what ratlover said as well

So its only really hurting 4th and 5th gear?
So If someone was to only race to about 35mph and launch hard off the line and WOT to 35mph(ish) it wont hurt the tranny?

I've run my HOT Juice in level 4 (same as 5 on a regular juice) for going on 2 years now and no limp. I always have it set on defuel 4-5 shift however and don't do too many 1st through 5th WOT runs.

I know I am pushing it though, and I do agree with what Rat said 100%.

I have had a few WOT in level five and have not slipped my tranny, but today I was in level 1 and some slow van pulled out in front of me right when I was in the throtle and I let off changed lanes and punched it again, my truck seemed like it slipped for about a second between 2nd and 3rd but Im not sure if it was wheel spin on the ice or a slip, I was unable to get it to do it again so im hoping that it was just spinning the tires. I defuel all locked shifts, and just have regular juice, akdiesel said I the guy that owned the truck before me might have upgraded the tranny but I dont know. Runs great in level five but it is sorta violent and I dont like to run it hard alot because it is my daily driver

Limp is a protective mode programmed into the Allison (the TCM, actually). If the system sees a certain level of slippage between input shaft speed and output shaft speed for a certain amount of time, it will invoke limp mode. That lights a check engine light, locks the trans into a forward gear (based upon the gear range when it slipped). It's designed to prevent further damage, but to allow you to "limp" it to safety or off the highway. If the limp occurred due to slippage from overpowering the trans (with a chip or programmer) and the trans can still accept normal power without slipping, you can clear the limp mode by shutting the engine off and back on. If you've limped it too often or have finally cooked the torque converter or clutches, the trans will lock into neutral and you're towed. The slippages that set this mode are relatively low (250 rpm on the TC and 100 rpm on the gear range for greater than 2 seconds) so you can get away with it for a while. But bottom line is that if you are adding much over 100 hp and thrashing your truck, you are a transmission overhaul waiting to happen.

Hey how about the "slip" setting (or screen) on the E/A. It's kinda scary to see when the torque conv is not locked. At what point should I start getting concerned. The numbers sometimes go 50, 60% and higher. Once it locks it goes to 0, .6%. Should I be concerned or should I just change the screen?

No, when the converter is not locked it will read anywhere from 0-70?%, the .6 you see when it is locked is nothing, mostly just electrical noise.

Slip reading on the Attitude is useless unless the TC is locked. Any slip reading above 1% with TC locked is actual slip and should be a concern.
