: Valve Train Noise??

I have a '95 C3500 dually w/ the 6.5l turbo-diesel. I've owned since new and it only has 49,000 miles on it. I've already been thru the typical FI pump replacement. Coincidently?, shortly after the pump was changed(not by dealer) a "ticking" noise developed in the engine. It can audibly be heard from inside the truck but not when listening under the hood. It sounds as if it is coming from the right rear of the engine. The old screw driver to the valve cover trick leads me to the right rear area nearest the firewall. It seem as if it develops shortly after the engine warms. The ticking changes speed with the rpm of the engine. It cannot be heard at road speed due to the engine noise. It is heard most at idle and at engine rpm slighlty off idle. Any history on this type of problem? Lifter...rocker arm...general valve train...etc...problems. Thanks in advance, Chuck

You've probably already figured that during the pump replacement the aluminum heater hose bracket got squashed a bit causing the hose to contact an injection line and it's the injection pulses you are hearing through the heater.

Thanks dieseldumdum........

You hit it right on. I checked where you suggested and found the coolant line(right where the foam insulator is) firmly pressed against the injector line. A little tweak and I'm good to go!!! I've been avoiding driving it too much because of the noise....It really sounded sounded like an expensive fix. Thanks again...It's back on the road and ready to be worked! Chuck
