2001 Duramax. Is there an easy way to remove the arm rests on the drivers seat, without getting too far in the seat itself? Leather. Need to replace or repair covering. Info by this weekend would be handy.

You will have to remove the entire backing on the seat to get to the bolts that hold it on there. It can be a weekend job, but it will be all weekend. Had this done on a previous truck by dealer and I watched them do the work, did not look like fun at all.. Good luck

Thanks, if it is like the cloth seats, it could be more of a fight.

My 1995 had a C-clip on the arm rest pin just like the old GM ones on pre-80's vehicles window cranks and door handles. Push in on the fabric/leather on the side of the seat and see if there is one there.

Just a thought.

A new armrest (dealer) is about $250.

To get it off (did one a couple weeks ago on an '02); move the seat forward and tilt the back forward. Bottom of the seatback is a long black channel clip, take a long skinny screwdriver and run it threw the side to release the clip. Then remove the two black button clips, from the side leather to the cardboard backing, that is just underneith that long clip. Pull up the seatback leather nearest the armrest. Tilt seatback back all the way. Pull the leather seatback from the front up enough to see the clip that holds the armrest in place (it's tight and you'll need to move the seat foam a little also). Pull the rubberband that keeps the clip in place (don't loose it) and pull the armrest clip (don't loose that either). Pull the armrest out. Reinsert clip and rubbertband, push in new armrest (make sure it goes ALL the way into the clip). Push everything back into place.

Not that hard, just auquard.
