Was in process of installing the new Racor/GM developed pre OEM filter on my ext. cab/sb when I noticed the instructions, as far as line cut and bracket positioning were a bit off. Gave one of their development engineers a call, and my guess was right. Install instructions were for a long bed. So, they had me do a little r&d for them, take some measuremnts and such, as far as where I repositioned the bracket and made the line cuts, even sent them a couple pics. (They are finalizing instructions now, and all new kits will have updated install instructions.)

Next thing I know, get an email telling me they are sending me two cases of filters, one for OEM, one for pre OEM kit. Now I call that pretty cool! Espeacilily when mis-direction did not delay me long, still got a very nice install.

Thanks Racor!!

www.lubespecialists.com (http://www.lubespecialists.com) has got some killer prices, I cant touch them prices, hell I cant even buy them that cheap.. Good source as I have purchased from him before. Greg is a great guy to deal with also.

As far as the kit is concerned, I didnt find any confirmation that GM was actually involved in the development. The engineers I spoke with said while they did not develop it, they agree that it is the best kit out there in there opinion. I asked him why he liked it so much over others and he said that the WIF sensor and the heater were big keys. Also becuase it uses a Racor element and Racor is the oem supplier. Long story short, I dont think that this kit carries any type of hype other then GM liking it, but those are the same people that want us to seperate the water in our fuel http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gifEdited by: dmaxalliTech

I may have mis-spoke re gm involvement in developement. I know Racor has given GM kits for test fitting, and they plan on selling over the gm parts counter. Sorry for any confusion re my statement about development.

I was just looking over their prices and I beat all of those every day. The rock guard is $36http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif . That makes the whole kit $342 and mine is $295 and includes rock guard and a wiring harness that does not have to be put together. Guess I am missing something. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif OEM filters are higher as well. But I better move on because I will be told that I am hijacking the thread.

So for all of us with the short bed, where should we make the cuts?

Jeephauler, not referring to your post, just the common thought (including mine before I checked into it) that GM was behind these kits. Not the case I found out.

Landuyt, I didnt relize you offered them, and at a better price too! My apologies on that, I am gonna edit my above post. I would rather see the business go to a site supporting vender like www.lubespecialists.com (http://www.lubespecialists.com) then somebody else.

I could not use the stock frame rail holes for mounting. Drilled new holes, and moved filter bracket 4 3/8" forward to body mount bracket. Instructions state to cut inlet tubing 2.5-3" forward of center of bend in tubing, I cut 6.5" further back. Instructions state cut outlet tube 2.5-3" aft of retaining clip, I cut 6 7/8" further to front, yeilding approximately 21" between cut ends of tube, and bracket positioned right in middle of cuts.

Others have used a single cut, and made wide sweeping loops with inlet and outlet hoses, but personally, IMO that looks a little sub pare. Less hose the better.

Hope this helps.

So now you have a 21" section of line missing so if one wants to go back stock you have to keep the section you cut out or run hose. To me that is really sub par. The same holes can be used that are already there, I have installed several on short beds and never needed to drill addition holes. Plus you now have drilled two holes in a frame that is not to be drilled into. Now we have and installation that takes more tools and time to do. Sounds good to me.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif Edited by: LanduytG
