I was wondering a few things. First of all, externally speaking is a 6.5 Turbo longblock the same dimensions as a 6.2? Will the intake/exhaust manifolds work from the 6.2?

What is the compression ratio of a turbo vs a nonturbo 6.5?

I can get a later model longblock 6.5 for very little expendature, and was wondering what it would take to swap this (NA) into my 88 Suburban.

I did a search and the information i found was kinda sporadic. I would like to use my mechanical injector pump as opposed to the electronic one found on the 6.5

If someone could drop me a line about this, i'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

whats wrong with the electronic IP?

There is a book on ebay that should tell you how to swap electirc IP with mechanical but I do not know if it is any good. I thought about it but decided to stick with the eletric IP.

When I swapped my 6.2 out for the 6.5 long block I used all of the 6.2 stuff. Except glow plugs & Injector lines. There was a couple of little things but all in all it went pretty smooth.

Is your 88 burban a square nose or round nose style.
Square nose then I believe you will have clearance problems with the turbo. I've been told you would have to use a Banks manifold.
Round nose should fit right in, just like the trucks

In a N/A application everything is straight forward with the exception of the injection lines. When the 6.5 came out in 1992, the injectors were tilted in the head to a different angle than the 6.2's used. This requires different injection lines, specifically lines from a 92/93 6.5 if using the short 6.5 injectors. If using the longer 6.2 injectors, there used to be a upgrade part# for use when purchasing a new long block. I have also re routed the stock injector lines and made them work, but it requires a bit of work and need to be done propperly.

It's not the same without a turbo.
