Somewhere I read a caution against using one of those cleaning CDs with the little brushes. The source, which I can't find, said the brush may pick up grease from the mechanism and transfer it to the laser lens. FWIW..

I believe I heard this also. I also heard that the bristles on the cleaning cd may be too abrassive and can scratch the lazer's lense.

That is why you use the cleaning solution that comes in the little bottle with the newer CD's. It is suppose to eliminate that possibility.. Of picking up grease that is.. Those brushes are so short that they barely touch the lens, just used to create an air current to whisk dust away.. Good luck..
