I was driving home on the highway last night driving about 70mph, and all of a sudden my check engine light came on and stayed on and the truck started to loose power. When i pressed the accelerator nothing happened untill it got to about 50mph then i could accelerate to about 60 and thats as fast as it could go. So I dropped it off at the dealer for them to fix the damn thing. Any ideas on what it may be? the truck only has 15,000 miles on it. Its a 2005 silverado Dmax Auto

that "sounds" like comething called Limp mode.. its a protection thing either from the engine or the tranny. It limits your speed to nothing above 2000rpm's..

let us know what they say.

Guessing 1093 and fuel filter if you have never changed it.

I'm also guessing fuel filter. They should be changed at least every 10K miles IMHO.

ok, they havn't called me yet, but is there anything else that should be changed at 15,000 miles? Tranny filter?

They called me and told me the problem. It was a bad fuel filter. They also told me that this is not covered under waranty and that they are charging me $190 to diagnose the problem and replace the filter with a new style gm Filter.

I recommend getting a secondary fuel filtration system. The Nicktane is an easy add on and you can get the CAT filters for $20.00 or less. It takes me a couple minutes to change and you may be able to get away with changing the OEM filter every 30K or so after that.

Your transmission filter is a "spin-on" and should be replaced at the first oil change (5k-10k miles). There are two transmission filters - one internal and one external - the external one gets changed at 5k miles (approx) and then with every fluid change. The internal one is only changed when transmission is rebuilt (according to allison).

You may want to do a little homework, and read your Diesel Suppliment that came with your truck. Just a little "Free" advice.

Samething happened to me at 7,000 miles. A bunch of bad diesel in the area. Mine happened in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. Elly nevada. 180 miles to elko dealer and 280 to las vegas dealer. $1,300 tow bill. Glad I didn't pay for that. I did have to pay $210 to get it fixed and new fuel filter. I thought it may be fuel filter, but thought no way. It only has 7,000 miles on it. Supposubly the fuel supplier is going to reimberse me for the $210. Sent it in 3 weeks ago and havn't heard anything yet.
I bought a case of fuel filters and keep one in the truck now. So does 2 of my uncles after hearing about my incident.
Also. A friend with a new 05 cummins had his plug at 10,000miles.

Sounds like a bargin compared to what St. Paul Allstate Peterbuilt/GMC charged us. It was at least double for the same thing at 11,000 miles. Now I'm not an expert here but if you ask me I think there might be a problem with the fuel system if these things are plugging up this fast. Did GM put a filter screen in the tank? We have 10 Ford diesels that have gone 50,000 plus miles on the fuel filters and they didn't plug up, the o rings gave up.

I got another P1093 code after replacing the filter. Took it to dealer and they found the code but didn't have the fix. I've read the other posts regarding the P1093 and shimming the FPRV. I would just like to see GM take care of the problem.
Anyone know if there is a method where everyone can send email to demonstrate the # of people dealing with the P1093 / FPRV problem?

They wont fix it. It is a spike in rail pressure commonly caused by rapid lift of the go pedal.

The dealer thought i had an aftermarket fuel filter when then first looked at it. Then they realized that it is a factory one, but one that they don't use anymore. The said they installed a newer style GM filter that is supposed to fix the problem of it gumming up so fast.

I always carry a new filter and filter wrench with me just in case I plug one. Bear in mind that if the filter plugs, it is doing its job and keeping crap out of the engine. All it takes is one tank of bad fuel to plug a filter, regardless of the miles already on the filter. Make sure that you get the newest filter, the one with the 'B' suffix in the p/n. The last ones I bought from GM were $25.

The filter I just bought is LFF8736 - no "B" - so? Should I not install -

I live about 128 miles from town and the light just came on and it will not go over 45mph?

Just happened to me tonight :( 12k

I had a 9' Fisher Plow installed yesterday by a GMC dealer up north..and asked how much to change the fuel filter he said $60+...thx, ill do it myself!

anyway My first thought was the fuel filter but then I was wondering if something during the install went wrong and killed a sensor to trip the light.

But, this thread has made me feel alot better!!
will be calling around tomorrow to see if anyone is open that stocks 'em.

I don't think any place but the dealer has the newest triple pleat filter. It is ACDelco TP1298B, gm p/n 98017645.

Our c5500 is doing the same thing again. Can't go above 1900-2000 rpms at about 54mph. It's back at the shop again (4th time), and I can only wonder what line they will give us this time.
1, they cleared the codes and sent it on its way.
2, they changed the fuel filter at about 10700miles.
3, added antifreeze and claimed the hose clamps on the aftermarket proheater were the cause for the tank being 2 gallons low, which the tank was not low to begin with but try telling them that.
4, we will see what they do this time. miles are about 11700. We will be calling GM to tell them about the poor service we are getting.

We DO NOT have bad fuel. We have 11 other diesels that all get fuel from the same station. And some of them have 50000 plus miles on them with no problems. The only problem we have had on them was the O-rings would leak around 50000miles.

I had no luck on that sunday finding any filters..but the code cleared and I kinda forgot about it.
I was heading home from portsmoth monday night and it limped on me again:o:
I finally got it changed last night and it was indeed a 1093 code.

When I was on my way to the dealer for a trade in inspection of my 04 the Water In Fuel light came on! Talk about BAD timing! Without a filter and tools I was forced to pull into a handy Kwik Kar and have it changed... They charged me 102.00.. That is in North Houston.....

GM wants us to use thier new filters and the are paying to have them installed.

I would talk to your dealer and go from there.

If nothing else they pay for the filter and labor and yuo pay for diag costs.

My 2 cents.

Bunch of thieves aren't they, lets see the fuel filter is what $20 to $40 depending on where you get it. Labor what $70 to $80 an hr, typical dealer.

I had the same problem& its in for the third time right now. 1st time they changed the filter and that was good for about 500 miles, then the same thing, took it back in & they said the injector pump must be the problem, now after replacing that l drove it about another 500 miles & it did it again last night. very frustrating. btw its an 05 crew cab 4wd. any input would be great. 1st post so hopefully l did it right.

190 for a filter change....that is nuts!! Isn't there a recall to have all filters updated to the "new" style? There was a TSB on it. I'll look for it.
