Well.... Four Wheeler has shown that they are about as impartial as Dan Rather during an election.

They decide to publish a truck comparison.... and they pit the Isuzu i350 (Colorado) against the Mitsubushi Raider and Dodge Ram 1500!

WTF? The 1500 is 10" wider and longer than the other two... those are midsize trucks.

Anyways, so they say things like "The Isuzu is the best offroader and most truck-like out of the box"... so, they had some good compliments for the Isuzu as well as the Dodge. They didn't care for the Dodge's dash.... the Mitsubishi comments were funny.... "V8 economy and V6 power? Where's the advantage?" FWIW, the Isuzu I5 has nearly as much power as the Mistubishi V8, and does nearly as well on acceleration and braking.

Mitsubishi had the best braking.

If course, the Hemi had the best acceleration, worse gas mileage, etc...

So what did they pick as the winner? Of course... the Dodge.
Their little "stack graph" where they add up points did it.... acceleration and power put it in a slight lead, but then they have a category called "Empirical" where the Dodge did 10% better than the others and put it's comparative score over the top.

Jeez... after reading that review, I would have bought the Isuzu (or Colorado) over the other two. If I wanted a full size truck I would buy a full size and look for a review that compares 3 full size trucks.
Why do I want to see a review where two mid-size trucks get beaten up by a full size half-ton.

They should have replaced the Ram with a Tacoma, and if they were worried about not having an American name in the review, they could have used the Colorado instead of the Isuzu.

I hear ya! I subscribe to various offroad mags and they all do the same thing. "Pickup of the Year"....yeah right.Look at the line up....Chevy Colorado vs. Ford F350 V10 vs. Dodge 1500 Hemi. Come on!! These mags compare apples to oranges all the time. I just pass over those article anymore. Half tons vs. Half tons, 3/4 tons vs. 3/4 tons, gas vs. gas, diesel vs. diesel. Why can't they get that in their heads. I guess its all in what manufacturer is sponsoring the tests. The best is when the bring the Lexus and Mercedes suv's VS. the likes of Jeep wranglers and rave how well the lexus rides and how comfortable the Mercedes is....makes me wanna -:t

That I5 is pretty cool. Lots of people are afraid of it and talk bad about it because it has an odd number of cylinders. I was going to buy a Colorado, but got the Silvy instead...

Basically once I started reading sites like this, FSC, ORT, and GMFS I gave up on the magazines. They get so much crap wrong, and half the articles are about crap I don't care about... I can see a lot more cool trucks on these sites than the one glimpse of one GM in the sea of rock crawlers and jeeps in the magazines...

I subscribe to Four Wheeler and Dirt Rider, only because they are about a buck an issue. For $12 a year, it's cheaper than the LA Times to line the catbox if it sucks :D

I gave up on Petersen's. I had the subscription 10 years ago when it was good. 120 pages per issue, 4-5 pages per featured rig, good writing. Now it's owned by Primedia and it sucks. Too much glamour boy stuff going on there. The magazine is about the magazine staff, not off roading.

I was going to buy a Colorado, but got the Silvy instead...agreed!I was looking at the colorado also and after researching the I5,that is one of the reasons we bought the H3.....same engine!:ro)

Yeah I have Peterson's too...unfortunately they won't let me unsubscribe, they tell me that my subscription is up and send me issues anyways, and then a couple months later send me a bill saying that I will be takin to collections....I hate magazine companies I will never have a subscription again

Back to topic...Rich....The Isuzu(colorado) vs. mitsubishi(dakota) vs. Ram is no comparison, I guess after all these years and issues the magazine companies have finally ran out of topics to talk abou so they just randomly pick vehicles to test. I have also noticed 4 wheeler has gone down hill too. Well I guess there's still the internet to get good information. (most of the time)

That happened to me, and it's total BS. It's lousy tactic that the marketers use. You don't have to pay. Call or email Primedia and tell them your not falling for this old trick. If they keep sending you copies, they have to prove you recieved them. I'm guessing you never signed for them. Or you can tell them to have a rep come out and pick them up if they want them back. You are not required to pay return postage or deal with labeling etc.

If worse comes to worse and you get a letter from their collection department, they still have to have written proof that you requested and recieved their magazine subscription (for the year, issues in question). This is worth a complaint to the FTC. That will get them off your back.

about a year ago they had a ford v-10, dodge power wagon, chevy hybrid, toyota tacoma, dodge dakoda, and a few otehr mid size and full sized trucks all competing in off road events and very few on road. the power wagon won the event but what chance does a chevy hybrid and a tacoma have against 33" tires front and rear locker a winch 4.56 gears and a electronic sway bar?
it amazing how they get away with it

I saw that same article. In one part they called the Dodge the "Dakota" so I looked closer and read on where is said 1/2 ton. I was like WTF. Showed my wife and she just laughed too.

From what I read I was wondering the same thing. The only bad thing I have heard about the I5 was some minor overheating on early production runs IIRC.

Thought it strange that they compare a $65000 dollar vehicle against a $25000 dollar one. I think I could guess which one would come out on top.

You should see the 4 wheel and off road they have pages and pages of off road definitions I would rather see off road shots.

To go one better, write a letter cancelling your subscription effective immediately and send it certified mail. Any issues received after the notification that they received the letter are yours for free. NO ONE can send you stuff you did not request, bill you for it, and then threaten collections if you do not pay. IT IS ILLEGAL! If you do not believe me, PM your address to me. I have a store, and would like to sell more stuff.

IMHO, the biggest problem with them is that almost all of the off-road (and a lot of other) mags are owned by Primedia now. Typical corporate America - if you can't beat 'em, buy 'em. No competition, now they all suck.

I dont pay any attention to these magazine junk tests, ever notice when a truck company comes out with a new model or design it allways becomes "TRUCK OF THE YEAR".
