I was checking out the new Four Wheeler magazine last night and they have an article about a new hydraulic bump shock for our trucks. (actually 99 and up 1/2tons are a bolt on, HD's require some cutting and drilling). The install they were doign was on an 05 GMC W/Duramax/Allison.

The idea behind it is fine. It replaces the stock bumpstop on the lower control arm. I have heard of issues with longevity out of the factory bump stop. So I guess replacing it woudl be an OK idea.

Now it is supposed to prevent bottoming. But the only way it can do that is by adding spring rate. The only way that a hydraulic divice can do that is adding TONS of compression resistance.

Also note that a hydraulic springing medium will always have a rebound force. This will certainly affect shock valving.

Basically this thing will cause the truck to hit harder, and be slower to recover. It's only use is over VERY severe dips, maybe even jumps at sand dunes or something similar.

Also note that the material the factory stop is made of has very low kenises, therefore very little rebound. Which is why the factories started useing that material vs the typical rubber of years past.

Unless you frequent the sand dunes steer clear.
