: killed the cat...now a ghost in the machine.
DURAMAXED 12-10-2005, 07:02 PM Just got through installing mbrp cool duals on my 06 lbz and for the first few days no warning lights. Now today after I was at discount putting some lucas oil stabilizer and some deisel kleen additive I restarted the truck and now have the symbol of an engine on the truck. Am I in deep dodo or is there a fix for this. please answer back asap I'm really worried.
Fingers 12-10-2005, 07:08 PM Sounds like an EGR code.
Max Power 12-10-2005, 07:09 PM No fix for that now on an LBZ. That is your check engine light and it is telling you that there is no sufficient EGR flow due to reduced back pressure. I hear a piece of tape works well over the check engine light :(
Cobra#3747 12-10-2005, 07:21 PM Duramaxed, is your truck one of the California based emission trucks? If you give me your vin, I can check.
So far the one LBZ that I know of with exhaust, no cat and Fed. emissions has not turned the light on.
DURAMAXED 12-10-2005, 07:33 PM no its not the california one...all i really want to know is if this is gonna cause bad things to happen to my motor?!?! thanks for ya'lls reponse
Max Power 12-10-2005, 08:28 PM Have the codes read just to make sure.
john@dps 12-12-2005, 05:09 PM No down side yet, on every truck we have done. Just the light on two of them. Who ever sold you the system should of explained that on your truck you might get it, that way you would of known.

SleeperTRK 12-13-2005, 12:10 PM Create some back pressure. Before I heard about the "finger" I took a ball-pien (sp) hammer and knocked several dimples in my front pipe. This created enought back pressure for my check engine light to turn off. Down side is you need to buy a new front pipe once they figure out how to correct this problem.
SleeperTRK 12-13-2005, 12:11 PM I am not familiar with MBRP but you might consider adding a muffler and/or cat to create enough back pressure.
smokinLBZ06 12-15-2005, 03:45 PM Just buy a finger stick and that would take care of it.
surfrippa 12-15-2005, 04:46 PM Just buy a finger stick and that would take care of it.
Its an LBZ...
smokinLBZ06 12-15-2005, 05:36 PM works the same way on every motor.
ratlover 12-15-2005, 05:39 PM I'm not sure if thats the case. Better talk to fingers and see if he has tested a LLY stick on a LBZ
Actually the whole code thing is something that drives me nuts. Finger stick seems to work good but its a bandaid IMO. A fix would be if it was written into the darn program to not run the darn thing and to not throw a code or look for it even.
surfrippa 12-15-2005, 06:57 PM works the same way on every motor.
:lol2: So it works on LB7, LLY, and LBZ??? Im pretty sure it doesent, but if you want to be the test monkey...go right ahead.
AussieDMAX 12-15-2005, 08:22 PM :lol2: So it works on LB7, LLY, and LBZ??? Im pretty sure it doesent, but if you want to be the test monkey...go right ahead.
Well, you wouldn't have to use it on an LB7 because it doesn't have EGR ............right??;)
surfrippa 12-15-2005, 10:03 PM Well, you wouldn't have to use it on an LB7 because it doesn't have EGR ............right??;)
OBVIOUSLY... I was just pointing out that he said it works on all the engines... :D Including the LB7 where it wouldnt be needed...
Im pretty sure that the LBZ has a 32 bit PCM and the LLY has 16 bit. Making the computers completely different, hence the 04.5-05 LLY chips/boxes/programmers dont work on the LBZ or the 06 LLY...

DURAMAXED 12-18-2005, 05:00 PM oops my gas cap wasn't on
Diesel Tech 12-18-2005, 06:10 PM That will do it.
camaroracer 12-19-2005, 12:29 AM so duramaxed with teh gas cap on you have no ses light? i want to get a 4" straight through kit for my LBZ but dont know about the SES lights and all. i have the power pup downloader so i can clear codes, but id rather the light not come on. let me know thanks!
RichLockyer 12-19-2005, 02:02 AM Does the pup have an option to disable the EGR? Predator does, and this will prevent codes and lights with a cat delete.
Max Payne 12-19-2005, 02:59 AM Correct me if I'm wrong, but Duramaxes don't have EVAP systems, so there shouldn't be any codes set by a loose or missing fuel cap.
camaroracer 12-19-2005, 10:15 AM powerpup lets you "clear" the codes but i couldnt find anywhere that said it would disable the codes. id love to open pipe this thing asap for mileage and power etc but i really dont want a SES light glowing at me ya know?
Cobra#3747 12-19-2005, 04:02 PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but Duramaxes don't have EVAP systems, so there shouldn't be any codes set by a loose or missing fuel cap.
What he said. Diesel dosnt have the evap stuff to set a code for evap leaks
ratlover 12-19-2005, 04:15 PM Everytime I have fuled I leave it running and pop the cap. No SES light.
Cobra#3747 12-19-2005, 05:36 PM Even the gassers wont turn on a light filling up with it running. Not in the test param. to run during idle
DURAMAXED 12-19-2005, 06:52 PM after backtracking I've realized it's after fueling. I noticed it came on after fueling at hess and after that fuel was completely burned out and replaced with my regular mobil fuel (i'm on the road alot and sometimes you just gotta take that lone diesel place no mattter how bad it looks) it goes off. Now I'm not a diesel guru I just know the basics and anything computer I'm just lost but could the different additives or lack thereof be messing with what's left of my catless emmsions system?
Cobra#3747 12-19-2005, 08:53 PM Until you go get the truck scanned for codes all anyone is doing is guessing. Stop wasting time and get it scanned.

Ditto
I have 51 miles on mine and having it scanned. It's anybody's guess without codes.....
