I have a 1982 6.2 I am rebuilding. I have the shop manual but it does not tell me how to time the injector pump.

I need TDC for the pump (or a dot or something like when you time a new cam)

What happened is my old 6.2 blew up and I got a new short block and I am going to use my old injector pump. I see a dot (or star thingie) on the cam gear but no corresponding mark on the pump gear.

Thanks for any help to this Diesel Newbie

Set the cam and crank sprockets dot to dot with the chain on, then install the pump drive gear and turn the crank a full rotation to bring the cam and pump gear marks into alignment.

But what mark am I looking for on the Pump Gear? I can not find anything that truely stands out as a "mark"

If i remember right its like a...circular raise on the gear, right next to one of the bolts? been a while since I seen it.

If you look at the gear with the dowel pin hole at the 12 O'clock position I think the the mark will be right above it by the gear teeth.

Ok I found a circle with a M in it. and that is the only mark I have found on the gear. The reason I do not "trust" this mark is it is not in alignment with any of the teeth or any of the holes on the gear.

I have found the one on the cam gear and it is in alignment with one of the teeth.

The circle with the M in it is the propper timing mark. Cam gear should at 12 oclock should line up with injection pump gear at 6 oclock. Never had one not line up.
