Tonight went out for some stuff in town,(beer) tranny is showing slippage on edge monitor-like up to 47%.If I hit the tow haul button it goes away.Truck has 41000 miles and I've had the edge for about a month and a half.I've run it on 5 several times, maybe 10 times through the gears.I usually leave it on 3 for everyday driving.Could i have already fried it? My truck does have 35's.Anyone 's feedback appreciated.:(:(:(

If the torque converter is unlocked you can see up to 70% slippage it is normal. As long as you dont see more than 1 percent when locked you are fine

I Guarantee it was just that your converter was locked up. Don't worry about it.

I see 100% alot when the torque convertor is not locked. Happens when your trying to do the speed limit of 25 to 35 mph. If you mash the go pedal a little harder, the slippage will go down.

Don't know what Juice you are running hot or cold. I can tell you when I first started putting some more ponies in my Jimmy I used a Quadzilla Stelth. Everything was fine for the first couple of times that I used the 110 setting. I limped it the third time and everytime after that. Worked great at the 90hp setting. Got tired of it and did the whole 9 yards. Tranny will hold the world. Now worried that I going too far and will take the lower end out of the engine. Gonna step back and get off drugs. The twin turbo set up looks awesome and the TTS Exteme is also seriously bad. Should be able to get 550+or-hp and1100ft/lb on straight #2 with acceptible EGT's. Watching that gauge go over 2000 degrees makes me limp.

I think the best thing to look at is the really big power guys on this site. What I will tell you is the pro's and the boss hogs over 700 hp are not there for very long without something going south. I'm probably the guy who had done the most to his truck and knows the least. Very expensive lesson. There are a bunch of pro's who will give you the straight scoop on this site. I started with a Stealth tuner and was hooked. Having the funds to invest I went hog wild. I should have joined this site first and learned a little more before I went nuts. I currently have 84K on my truck and you would not have known there was a problem with it except it was blowing coolant out the overflow before it got warm. Sucker hauls ass. Smoked a vette and a Cayenne with no problem. Never really ran it on the track but did a couple of Dyno's and the Diesel Page Pull-Off in Montana. Dyoned over 600hp and 1300ft/lbs with all the goodies turned up in Denver, but could tell that if i did that very much, I'd be picking up the pieces in a bucket. More reasonable set up that I can drive everyday was 499hp and 1138ft/lb. I knew nothing about how to launch or even the best way to set up my truck when we towed a 10,000 lb trailer up a 6.5% grade in Western Montana for a measured mile. I did it in 52 sec.and 76 miles an hour. I lost to two other Duramaxes, Kennedy and Motovet, who were a couple of seconds faster than me, but I did ok for a knuckle head. Luckly I have met a bunch of guys on this site and in person who really know what they are doing and have helped me a lot. After $24,000 in goodies and headed toward $35K+ I will tell you what I have learned. There is always someone willing to push it a little further than you, and most of the time you will not win. If you do win, especially in an event were there are some serious trucks, yo are about to blow your engine if you keep it up.

It's like drugs, the more you got, the more you want.

How long will the engine last? By far the longest if you don't start messing with it. I really think where you get in trouble is when you fix the tranny and suddenly realize there is nothing that drive train won't hold, (given you do acouple of mods to the frontend) and don't get stupid with the tires and lift kits. You start turning up the power and there is never enough. You cross 600hp and 1200+ftlbs of Torque and your days are numbered.

I'll let the pros chime in , but I think hp of 600 and less given it is made by #2, and egt's under 1300 degrees or so, even 1500 for a short time, and no durgs and the engine should last 300K. I have 84K on mine and have blown the head gaskets even with the head studs and also the gasket between the pedestal and the turbo twice. This is getting expensive and I'm alway the #2-3 or #4 truck in the events. Usually a huge drop off after the first few, cuz most guys are not willing to put that kind of $ in the addons, or willing to subject their trucks to that kind of power and or problems.

I'm taking off all the drugs and going to #2 only. Installing Twin Turbos and replacing the hot edgy with A TTS extreme.

Just say no to drugs....:grd:

Stick with level 3 as max power level on a stock trans. Level 2 If you add a Boost Stick.

I asked the same question when I first bought my edge. I went with Kennedy and others advice and have kept it at 3 unless there is something worth while lined up next to me at a light. The slippage on the attitude bothered me also, so I just switched it to show boost, speed, engine temp, egt... Now it doesn't bother me because I can't see it!:)

Seeing 75% with the tranny unlocked is pretty normal. In fact that is really just normal driving here in Houston so I would venture to push it much harder. The slip we are seeing on the Edge with the TC unlocked is clearly not an accurate calculation. What you want to worry about is the slippage with the TC locked. NOTHING above 1% unless it is extremely brief. If you have a stock tranny dont go above level 3. You can run level 4 on occassion for a brief burst but your definitely going to replacing the tranny and TC sooner than normal. Dont even think about level 5. Stock Allison will let you know really quick that it doesnt like it and if you do it again it's gonna spit at you.

JK, et al;

With my setup as indicated below, do you all suggest I stay with level 1 or 2 max on the EZ? Truck seems very well set up as it is.

Thanks,

Ed

I would say daily driving you can run on 2. While towing I would run on 0 and maaaaaybbee 1 if EGT's looked ok and you were going through mountains.

My tranny is still holding,Iguess I had never payed attention to the slippage before. If anyone is interested, Today i went to the local dealer(Chevy) and had my buddy run my truck for codes2 came up: abs, rear speed sensor,we reset them and then tried to change my speedo calibration. We changed it to 19.5x something or other.I figured that was the biggest size and I have 35's on my truck.I took off and hit the brakes and noticed that my brake pedal was MUCH firmer and more responsive.I proceeded to hit the brakes a little harder and felt the ABS shutter in the pedal and then the ABS light came on along with the servie brake system soon display.Went back and plugged it in and found a 285x75r16 setting which my buddy said must be a new upload from GM(he had never seen it before)Anyways it seems the dealer can reset your speedo for 285's -my speedo is only off 7 MPH now (according to attitude) Before it was about 10-12 MPH off.

The Edge EZ only has 1,2,3. No "0" mode. Last tow, I unplugged the Edge to significantly lower EGT's. Now I've got the Edge hooked up, and Booststick, Fingerstick, and EGR blocker all installed. Would really like to tow our Weekend Warrior fifth-wheel without uninstalling the EZ... Curiously, it sure feels like the truck is slower with it all installed versus just the Edge EZ installed...

Man am i glad to hear about the slipage being normal or acceptable. After downloading the Hot + 2 ET Illiminator i was seeing some high slippage as well. But in tow T/H I was seeing it lock and stay that way. I did notice it slip in %locked when i poured out some smoke....):h on the freeway. I think it showed 1% very briefly. I just wished i could figure out why my Allison is so stupid. Its seen two days of Hot + 2 E.T. (350 HP) and Hot OJ W/Attide level 3 and still hasn't figured out when to shift...consistantly. But she lays out plenty of smoke:ro) and will spin them 285 bfg tires in 1st and 2nd and a long bark in third!!!:D
