I have a 2001 5.9 tcd, auto tranny. 51,000mi. Here is the problem as best as I can explain. While going down the road around 45 to 50 mph and tacking around 1600, the rmp jump up about 200 rpm and the engine cuts right out, so I let off on the accelerator and try to speed up again and it cuts out the same as before. It will idle all right, its problematic when moving up in speed. It acts like a tranny slip and shut down. I have a diprical gague to monitor the transfer pump it is working fine. 13 psi. The injector pump and transfer pump were replaced last year. This truck has been babied I dont plow snow or pull excessive loads. I think it might be the tranny but am not sure. Also the fuel filter is new and the fuel is new and I have added winter additives. If anyone has any ideas for me I would appreciate any help Thanks..AUG.:help: :help: -:t -:t

Let's see if we understand what is happening. You are going along, and without pressing down on the accelerator, the motor speeds up and then dies?

Yes as I am driving from a stop lets say when I get to be around 50 mph the rpms jump up around 200 rpm and the engine cuts out as long as my foot is on the pedal. So I let off the pedal drop down in speed continue along reach 50 mph again and the same happens. Like I say seems like a tranny slip and a shut off.

Try changing the fuel filter. My cousins did the same thing.

Ditto, seen several cases of this and everytime a filter solved it.

Thats the first thing I changed when the problem first occured.(fuel filter) Its brand new. I have a dipricol fuel pressure gague connected on the schraeder valve at the injector pump intake. If there was a fuel pressure loss from a filter or some blockage I would see a drop on the gage. It stays around 13 psi. plenty of fuel going to the injector pump. I am thinking maybe something computer related? Or sensor?

Do you have any codes stored? Engine light on? Does the tach bounce a lot at an idle?

Try re-setting the APPS and see if it re-occurs. Although mine was a stick, had something similar to that happen, turned out the VP-44 was on its way out, Check for codes and let us know.
