Hi all,
Sorry for the dumb question but I tow a 44ft goose trailer with 15.5 gvw. The back of the truck does sit a little lower of course but it tows fine. Kind of new to the concept of air bags. What are the benefits and are they easily installed and at what cost. Thanks Davey

I pull a 28' Car trailer, usually at around 11k lbs. Had a lot of tongue weight so I put the air bags in with the air compressor and it made a huge difference. The back doesn't sag at all and I feel like I have more control over the trailer.

The air bags act just like a spring, they transfer weight from the frame to the axle. The key is that they are adjustable unlike the leafs springs on our trucks. The more air pressure in the bags the more weight they hold, up to a point. The bags bolt to the frame in place of the factory bump stop and then bolt to the top of the rear axle. When you want to tow, air the bags up, when you're not towing air them down to 5psi and it's like they aren't there.

Here's a few pics of my old air bag set-up:

The spacer below the bag is because the truck is lifted, otherwise the bags bolt directly to the axle.

The basic set-up is about $225 from SummitRacing.com. I went with an onboard compressor, a 2 gal tank, and in-cab guage/controller so I could adjust the bags on the fly. The air tank also gave me the ability to air up the tires on the truck, etc...

The whole set-up cost about $500 and a day to install. I had a similar situation as above, I had a toy hauler with a huge tounge weight. The air bags helped level the truck which made it ride better, they really made a difference in how the truck handled. I got back on the truck as well. Well worth it in my opinion.
