: Where do they make Cummins trucks?
DMAX Daddy 12-08-2005, 12:41 AM This isnt meant to be a stupid question, they unloaded a car carrying ship full of Dodge trucks today at Port Hueneme Navy base. Has to be 600 or 700.
Just an FYI, a hundred or so acres of the base are not allowed to have anything but a parking lot, so several auto manufacturers (Mazda, Daewoo being the big ones) offload vehicles and store them there to be shipped by truck or train throughout the US. Im not sure how much cash the government gets, but it is a fairly big chunk of change.
Max Power 12-08-2005, 12:42 AM hecho en México IIRC
66supersport 12-08-2005, 12:46 AM Mexico IIRC
:exactly:
locknload 12-08-2005, 08:41 PM thats why they are called imports
DMAX Daddy 12-08-2005, 08:56 PM Didnt mean to sound stupid or anything, but seeing a couple of acres of trucks suddenly appear definitely caught my eye.
nosliw 12-08-2005, 09:00 PM and WE get poked at for having a foreign designed motor. built here.
About 20 years ago I toured the Cummins Engine plant in Columbus, IN. It was quite a surprise to see the engine blocks were from China.
DMAX Daddy 12-09-2005, 12:54 AM I know the 38 liter and 50 liter diesels in our generators are made in England.

hmm.... mine was cast in Mexico...
To my knowledge the ISB castings were either sourced in Brazil or Mexico. The "Taco" block being the better casting. The Brazil blocks had the number 53 cast in the side right above the oil pan rail on the drivers side (Underneith the injection pump) and are more prone to cracking.
My truck (It's a 1999) was assembled in St. Louis MO.
Looks like Ford trucks are the only domestic assembled pickups now... ):h
gelecon 12-12-2005, 09:39 PM HMMMN.........Ford's are no longer made in Canada? I don't care what brand (I have owned 2 of the big 3) and my dad owns the other) but all vehicles no matter where they are made I am almost certain have parts made from outside the us. It may be a computer, sensor etc. but I have a hard time believing they are all from the US, especially since 1/2 are metric bolts. just my .o2 worth.
Hawkster 12-12-2005, 11:40 PM I believe most Fords are made in the Louisville, KY plant. Although they might make them elsewhere also. Toyota Camrys are made in Georgetown, KY. What do we call them, domestic or import? Domestic I would guess, especially since I have buddies working there. I realize my truck was assembled in Mexico with about 98% U.S. parts made by U.S. workers. If most of us saw how a good number of the Mexicans live, we might not begrudge them a job assembling trucks.
Unit453 12-12-2005, 11:52 PM I did remember passing a small plant along I-95 in northern North Carolina.

Most of the migrant farmworkes around here live 10 or so to a very small 1 bedroom apartment, making really ****ty wages doing jobs americans wont do.
Anyway, what do we call the Toyota's, Mercedes, and such being made here in the US?

Dude..I've seen a 53 crack. Holy crap! Talk about visiting the Grand canyon. The good thing is the crack is so big, its easy to weld. I've seen some nice fixes for the dreaded 53 crack.

98% seems high...is this acurate or a guess. I know the average domestic truck is built with 80-90% domestic materials. Blows the import truck numbers away, even if they are built in the US.
