I have a 94 chevy 3500 w/6.5 and without listing everything that's gone on it will start but doesn't drive. I've lost timing and think it's either optical sensor in injector pump or pcm. Any help is most appreciated. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

You will need to hook a scanner up to it and see what the timing is. Also see if it pulls any codes.

I have hooked a scanner to it and code 88...tdc offset problem....scanner with engine running shows 0.0 with an expected timing of 8.8 degrees...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

The TDC offset is out of range. You'll need to do Time Set (Tech 2) and get the base timing to roughly 3.5-4.0° then perform the TDC learn.

It's a '94 so it's the old pathfinder scanner ...I do believe the problem is the optical sensor in the stanadyne inj. pump. Unless it's a wiring issue that I haven't seen, but my scanner has a wiggle test and I'm ready to pull the pump and get it tested! I appreciate all efforts to help!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

If the optical sensor is bad, it will set a code after 8 counts are missed.

Sorry, but the old scan tools just don't do much on the electronic 6.5.

What codes are present?

the only code is 88, tdc offset.....I have replaced the lift pump, the PMD, air and fuel filters, oil pressure sensor, cold start relay, cured vacuum leaks checked glow plugs etc. , think I've taken care of several things the inj. pump was compensating for, now I think that poor thing has worked itself to death. Not that I think it shouldn't last MUCH longer but.................http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Time to perform TDC learn and see where it falls. Once you know where it is (it will be -2.02 or + 2.02 trust me) you can nudge the pump in the proper direction and relearn.

Your pump is not likely to be bad...

I would LOVE to perform tdc learn. The scanner I bought is a otc obd1 and obd11. It'll do my '93 lincoln or my '01 2500hd chevy or my '94 3500 w/6.5 td.....But I may not be clear on all functions. It looks like the diesel things I need it to relearn are for newer models. I feel like I'm on mars trying to work on this!!! Thanks Again.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
