problemchild 02-22-2004, 07:48 PM Ive seen the same type of device on sniper scopes to knock down sun glint.
Could stop a big chunk witch would be costly, Industrial Caterpillar engines have these but in a different area and have saved the engines from costly repairs

bonehead 02-22-2004, 10:57 PM So that's why Chevy made the front grill the way they did, it increases air flow through the radiator!

patrick 02-24-2004, 12:20 AM this just blocks larde material form the turbine.can not help air mix from the turbine it goes to the intercoller.
DURAMAXED03 02-24-2004, 07:22 PM please...please don't laugh at me, I know this has something to do with a turbo.....but what?!?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Question.gif
Big P 02-24-2004, 08:33 PM If you look at the turbine blades in the turbo they are designed to be driven by air going perfectly straight into the turbo to drive the blades quicker/faster. By leaving the front of the turbo open it allows the air in the airbox to create a cyclone effect, which makes less drive. The TAG is designed to straighten the airflow before it hits the blades to drive them harder. I don't have one but, I guess there is a fair amount of TDR guys running them that like them. It sounds good in theory. Edited by: Big P

The only problem with what your saying is that the air doesnot drive the compressor portion of the turbo! The tubine or (exhaust side) drives the compressor. The compressor sucks the air into the blades, then compresses the air and sends it off to the intercooler for cooling. The theory of straighting the air was done years ago and has been disproven many times over. What it can do is correct for a poorly design air inlet, but that is something the D-max's donot have a problem with.

Big P 02-25-2004, 05:20 PM You're absolutely right Diesel Tech, the exhaust DOES drive the turbo. The TAG WILL NOT affect peak boost, but I could see it helping spool-up.
