: Dealer replacing my '05 tow mirrors with '06 mirrors
Wasted Income 12-07-2005, 01:17 AM Brought my truck into the dealer today for loose glass on both side's mirrors (power extending tow mirrors) on my 2005.
They decided to replace the mirrors on both sides, and I was able to sweet talk them into ordering the 2006 towing mirrors instead of the mirrors that came on it.:ro)
I'm not a huge fan of the look of the new towing mirrors, but from what I hear, they work much better than the ones I have now...the mirrors I have now are worthless for towing...Censored
The 05 mirrors are something like $540 each, and the 06 mirrors are $270 each, so I did my part to help keep GM in business...haha.
I don't have them on the truck *yet*, but I watched the parts guy order them up.

Hey, TAKE a breath, you're turning blue!!!
There was a post yesterday that they are off of backorder now.
Why would I spend $320 when I am getting them for FREE!? :cool2:
gm-man 12-09-2005, 07:24 PM What is the part #'s for the new mirrors, so i can look at gmpartsdirect.
Also anyone think these mirrors are better, anyone had personal experience with these... http://www.visionviewmirrors.com/extendable_replacement_mirrors.htm

I think the GMs are better, and the mirrors in the link come stock on furds.

Pro400exc 12-10-2005, 03:51 PM Hell if you want the "power stroke mirrors" there is a power stroke broke down on the edge of the interstate I could pop them off for you! lol
They once tore a brand new BMW down to the frame (no hood, fenders, rims, doors, seats, glass...NOTHING) in about 1-2 nights. I have a pic some where let me try to find it for you boys.
Sry Dirty..but i highly doubt that..seeing as how BMW's are Unibody....get your story straight...
Captain-A 12-13-2005, 07:41 AM 06 Mirrors are much better. Better field of vision, turn signal in mirror(these are great when towing trailer so Aholes in cars can't claim they didn't know you were changing lanes). Great quality plug & play direct replacement mirrors. Jim Smith Chevrolet had a few sets in stock last week. In Spring Valley NY.
zsqure 12-13-2005, 06:46 PM Just recieved Email from gmpartsdirect, One mirror, "Part Number 15812279.
Currently the part number listed above is not available from GM at this time as GM is out of stock and the part is on national backorder. We will have to remove this part from your order. Please let us know if you want the balance of the parts on your order, which are n stock and ready to ship."
So I said ship the other mirror. We'll see if it actually gets here.
Wasted Income 12-14-2005, 12:25 AM Hmm, well hopefully the dealer has a little more pull with a warranty issue, than someone shopping on a website  :help2:

Wasted Income 12-15-2005, 03:50 PM Ah, that national backorder wasn't too bad ;)
riverchucky 12-15-2005, 04:43 PM You're gonna love 'em. Installed mine a couple weeks ago, the difference is like night 'n day! I think they look fine on the Duramax, JMO
Wasted Income 01-02-2006, 08:29 PM Well, took 'er to the dealer today (Bob Grimm GMC in Morton, IL) and they swapped out those worthless '05 "towing" mirrors for these beauties...under warranty. :cool2:

X-Treme 01-02-2006, 10:46 PM JMO.......but those things look horrendous. (sp) I HATE those new mirrors. I'd rather not be able to see.
Wasted Income 01-02-2006, 11:01 PM Eh, that doesn't mean much coming from someone with clear tail lights...
Wasted Income 01-02-2006, 11:04 PM Jmo...
TheBac 01-02-2006, 11:29 PM You guys do realize those GM mirrors ARE rebadged Visionview (Ford) mirrors, don't you? The only diff is the turn signal.......
The '03-05 extending towing mirrors are Powervisions....http://www.powervisionmirrors.com/
VC-17 01-02-2006, 11:52 PM I must agree with the above post, Those '06 mirrors are FUGLY! They may function better than the power extending mirrors, but I can't get over the crookedness of those '06 mirrors, it just seems like it was an afterthought on GM's part. I like my power extending mirrors and if I develope any problems, I'll just have them replaced with the same mirror. I hope no one takes offense to my opinion.
I don't really like the looks of them because they somehow look cheap to me. That said, I will put them on my truck because I hate towing with my power fold mirrors and I want mirrors I can really use. I would take Ford/Nissan/Dodge mirrors any day over the old GM units.
I kind of like the looks of the new mirrors on a black truck, how do you guys think painting the mirrors to match my white truck would look?
VC-17 01-03-2006, 08:28 PM If Gm took time to make them look as good as the FURD mirrors, I wouldn't think twice of replacing mine.
mullis56 01-03-2006, 08:35 PM Everyone has an opinion.....I'd rather be able to trailer safe and drive safe with the 2006 mirrors......just my $0.02 worth!
LeroyR 01-04-2006, 12:09 AM You guys can think whatever you want, but I'd much rather have Ross Perot mirrors than the POS strap-on mirrors. At least these cover ALL the blind spots and allow you to see back beyond the trailer/camper.

AMEN!!!
Chuck1 01-04-2006, 12:43 PM I miss the Chrome that was on the mirrors of my 02. They weren't to good for trailering, but they sure looked nice. JMO
camping350 01-04-2006, 05:32 PM while you were at dealer should have them repair front licencese plate looks like crap the GMC has a nice bracket which raises the plate i bought my bracket at target my first plate got destryed at glamis
MaXXed 01-06-2006, 11:24 AM A question- How "plug and play" are the 06' mirrors on an 05'? I have the tiny stock power heated ones on my truck, which really suck- the space shuttle could be passing me and I can't see it. I'd like to change to these 06's, but I don't want to have to tear the dash apart or struggle with half-arsed connections in the doors... Anyone?

LOL, Space Shuttle...
It is completely plug and play for the 05 Towing mirrors...they didn't even need to reprogram the door module.
I'd IMAGINE that it would be the same for the small power folding mirrors, since they have the same functions as the '06 towing mirrors (turn signals, heated, power adjust). The plug should also be the same. I would think that worst case, they might have to program your door module to think that it has the power extend mirrors. No crappy wiring, no digging in the dash.
UnionMan 01-07-2006, 07:37 AM I have an 05 CC but with manual camper mirrors (work truck package). If I order these 06 mirrors, any chance the wiring is actually in the door so at least of the turn signal and/or heat functions would work? The current mirrors are terrible.
Thanks,
Robert
Wasted Income 01-07-2006, 11:50 AM You can pull the door panel and look for the wiring. Then you'll know for SURE.
UnionMan 01-12-2006, 04:51 PM Ah really!? LOL j/k
Just didn't want to take the door apart to find out if someone here already knew.
MaXXed 01-24-2006, 11:28 AM Thanks guys, I'm going to give ordering the 06 units a shot. I've blown $350+ bucks in worse ways, believe me. I'll post with the results of my foray later on...
