I have a 1997 psd with 157,000 on it it has had this studdering problem from about 115,00 on. I have taken it to two ford dealers and one privat diesel specialist not solutions. heres the deal when the engine is cold it runs smooth but when it gets to running temp and and I take off from a stop it will studder and miss off idle to around 2000 rpms and then clears up, it is missing and can be heard in the exhaust. ford said injectors were fine bot times different dealers any answers?

Sounds to me like a high pressure oil problem. You might try unplugging the IPS.(injection pressure sensor.) It will let the truck go to a default mode and see if anything changes. It will make the CEL come on running unplugged. The other thing that comes to mind is the IPR. (Injection pressure regulator) Might be going south.....

Well I tried it when I got off work and drove for and hour and it ran smooth for the first time even at 20mph in overdrive which before was when I could notice the most so just to make sure I plugged it back in and the problem was back. I work on this same system on cat machines and have not encountered this problem we just seem to have injector problems left and right.

Not yet probly can't get one till monday now I will see if I can get one from the local international dealer, parts are much cheaper, bought my cam sensor there for 80 dollars and for in my town wanted 190 dollars. Hey I keep hearing about this tony wildman chip how much do they run $$$? I have the banks big hoss in mine and it gets with it pretty good but this one seems to be pretty popular. what kind of numbers is he getting at the rear wheels I would like to have one and do some comparing there is a local shop here with a chassis dyno

Tony is the man when it comes to chips for the OBS powerstrokes. Of course a big limiting factor of these trucks is the fact that the injectors flow about 98cc fuel max.....where a 99+ stroker is somewhere around 130cc's. So the most you can expect with a good chip is about 60-70 hp. So your looking at 220-230 at the rears with stock injectors. My chip is 3 positions, high idle(1100 rpms), a tow/economy burn that I love... and a extreme setting. It run me about 350 bucks. The more or less settings will determine the price. Whats nice about Tony is if you don't like what ya get, send it back and he'll re-burn something else for you. Also if you start get larger injectors, he'll custom tune a program specifically for your set-up. Best part is he's a nice guy and will spend hours on the phone to make sure you get what you want! If ya want I can PM his # to ya.

I wonder why banks claims to add a 100hp at the rear wheels and tsperformance claims 115hp at the rears. I have found a place that sells a twin turbo setup for our psd's the web site is www.p4powersystems.com it is $3800.00 but it is two turbos and all the piping and air filter produces 40psi but that also requires head studs instead of bolts. They have a 1997 psd with injectors and a evolution programmer in it and claim 550hp at the rears with water meth and lp injection. But yeah send that number thankyou.

I forgot to mention some 97's (few) came with split shot injectors(same as the 99+) and this is what banks uses to make their claims. They were made for California to meet their stricter emmisions. PM sent!

How do I tell if that is what I have in mine? Yeah that beans diesel has good prices on their injectors. In your description what is the HPX crossover?

They have a different looking FPR. But i think the easiest way is to look at the sticker on the left valve cover that tells the hp,.....if its black and white its got single shot injectors and if its teal/blue it'll have the split shots.
The HPX crossover is a high pressure hose that goes between the high pressure oil rails near the back of the head. Because you have the two back cylinders firing on after the other, you get a low spike of oil pressure in that rail. The hose helps reduce that spike. Not a power mod but it made my truck idle smoother and seems to be a bit quieter going down the road.
Dale @ Tymar Performance is where I got mine.
