http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/BA5_MVC-002S.JPGOk I was looking under the front, trying to find the loose whatever it is under there and I noticed that the Driver's side lower control arm does not have that little connection rod between the front portion of the arm and the back portion but it does on the passenger side. It is a small support from the front to the back, but only on the passenger side and it is right next to the sway bar linkage. Is yours like this too or is just mine and do I need to have it looked at??? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif Edited by: GMC2500HD

Ok 93 hits and nothing? I am not talking about the sway bar linkage, I am talking about the support bar under the linkage in the photo. Can someone look on their own truck and comment? thanks

Are you hearing a grinding or groaning noise in your front end? The reason I ask is that I just placed my first post here about a noise problem with my brand new Chevy 2004 2500HD 2WD I am having.

NO not having any grinding noises, just an occasional bump and thud sound, maybe something loose but not sure, truck is going in next week for them to look at this. Sorry to hear about your issue. This is nothing major just trying to figure out whether the parts I have on the front end are matched correctly or not and maybe the lower control arm on one side is not right. Thinking maybe that one may be off a 2WD truck and is not suppose to be on there.

Is the thud on the drivers side? My 03 extended cab had a thud and a clank. Now my 04 cc is starting to do the same thing. Dealer told me the mechanic could not find any problem. Please keep me posted!

Thanks

You know I am very surprised that no one else has answered this question. You guys usually jump all over everything to make sure it gets answered. Thanks

That is where the sway bar attaches to the control arm. In your pics, you're looking at two different sides of the control arm.

See the arrow.

Just looked under mine, Both sides are the same. The brace from the place where the Shock mounts to the A frame to the spot where the sway bar link mounts to the A Frame that you are talking about is part of the A Frame right? Is that the piece you are missing on the driver's side, part of the A Frame casting itself?

mine are both there as, kartattack said I think you are looking at it wrong from your picks. Both of my trucks are there.

Mine has the support bar on both sides.

I see you are from Houston too, I'm on the far west side. What dealer do you get your truck serviced at? Are they any good? I haven't had mine back to a dealer since taking delivery and am looking for feedback before taking it to the wrong places.

I am not talking about the Sway bar linkage. They are both there and are where they are suppose to be. I am talking about the support cross piece on the lower A arm that is in the picture.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/BA5_MVC-002S1.jpgure. Edited by: GMC2500HD

Larry, I bought my truck from Southwest in Sugarland and I have never had to have it in for service or anything. I will probably take it back to Southwest or to Ron Carter in Alvin cause they are closer. Good luck

I know what your talking about. I have a 98 and they are there, no help. Does it look like it was there? Or does it look smooth in the casting where it would have been? I can't see it not being needed as it strenghtens the lower a frame.

OK, now I understand. Well, my truck has that cross brace on both lower control arms. I'd look for evidence of a break on it. Edited by: Kartattack

My passenger and driver side both have the braces. Mine is Chevy, don't know if that sould make a difference.

I have an 04, and the brace is on both sides.

I just looked at both of mine and neither one has that cross brace.

I think you just got caught between design changes, 1 old one and 1 new one.

My build date was 12/22/03

I think DavesDmax is correct.

Mine doesn't have it on either side. Build date 01-15-04.

Oh well guess I will stop worrying about it and get on with my life. Thought maybe it had something to do with front diff. but guess not. No biggie. Thanks guys

Mine doesn't have it on either side. Build date is 10-03-03. This is probably another GM design change.

Just talked to a guy that works for GMC/Chevy, he said that they changed the design on the lower arms along with hundreds of other design changes. He said that mine was built in the midst of the design change and that it is no big deal. If I want to have it changed the dealer will do it free of charge just so that it matches, but no big deal. Mine was built in Nov and the change in design was made in Oct. So no biggie.

It is a design change or a "mid-model enhancement". After I wrecked my '03 and bought my '04 my fiance mentioned that it will have the new lower control arms which she personally tested. (She's a test engineer at the GM truck test lab.)

So why did they change? Just curious what they were trying to correct, improve,,,,

I'll bet the only improvement was to GM's bottom line.....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif It most likely costs less to produce without that cross piece.
