First I just want to say hello to everyone, i'm a new member to the board.
Second I was wondering if you gentlemen could help me out with a purchase decision on a new truck. I currently have a 2003 Chey Crew cab dually with an 8.1 litre Vorter. I use it to pull a lot of heavy trailers and the gas mileage is just killing me, so I was thinking about trading it in on an '04 Duramax. I was also wondering if I should get the Silverado again or the GMC Sierra. If you guys could give me some input that would be great. Thanks.

This is strictly a matter of taste in my opinion. I have a Chevy and like the look of the front end. However, if you ask the GMC boys they will say the Chevy looks too much Avalanche like, not manly enough.
This is equivalant to asking which of the Fraternal twins is better?
Personally, either one is a good looking truck and under the skin they are 100% GM. Spin the wheel, take your choice.
It's not too often you get to make such a tough decision. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

Both trucks are built the same, on the same assembly line.
It's A matter of choice, witch one do you like the looks of better?

I 3rd the above comments. It all boils down to the look you want.

I remember someone making reference to the Chevy as looking like a "Mad Chinaman coming down the street."
Not to nock it but I would have to agree. The frontend of the GMC just looks more sleek and aerodynamic.
So I agree with the others, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It's just a matter of choice. Personally, I just love the 04 Chevy front end. Maybe the deciding factor for you would be the one you can get the best deal on! Good luck and happy trucking!----Phil

with only cosmetic differences between them, recommend you give strong consideration to the dealership and its reputation for service .... please note that a dealership with good gasoline engine mechanics may or may not have a clue how to work on a D'max

Indianaman;
The GMC may have better resale value in the long run. If you only want a bareboned, stripped work truck the Chevy can be special ordered with out all of the items a GMC comes standard with.
Anyway you slice it, you cannot go wrong the the Duramax driveline package. I would buy another GMC tomorrow.
Zero issues that "count", great power and very good fuel milage. (21 unloaded, 14 average towing at 65)

Hay there is no doubt. The GM is better looking. Just ask anyone who owns one. Seriously they are the same truck both made with the same wonderful power package Duramax and Allison. The best Combo since Robin & Battman, The Lone Ranger & Tonto, Bread & Butter, Apple Pie and Ice Cream, A hug and a Kiss. Ying & Yanghttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ying Yang.gif Shall I go on? You get the drift. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif I drove them all before I got my 2002.I even got the daeler to allow me to tow my trailer and keep a 6.0 gasser over night, then a 8.1 with an Allison. I could watch the Gas gage go down on that one, but I knew that I needed an Allison 5 Speed. Then I took out the Drramax. End of story, hang the cost, I NEED this truck. I was hooked and have loved every mile of the 34700 I have put on. All in all I would say buy the truck at the dealer you can count on , even if it costs a little more there. There is nothing worse than saving a few hundred bucks and suffering the rest of the time you own it with a poor dealer that gives poor service. My advice. Shop for the best Dealer not the best Deal. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Why does the HD power Package cost $7900 for a Chevy but only $6805 for the GMC? Almost $1100! What is standard on the Sierra that costs this much to add to the Chevy? Alot of people say the Chevy is cheaper...only on base price which reflects items that are standard to GMC and options to Chevy. My dealer sells both and when we priced out duplicate trucks it was less than $200 diff.

Just ordered 3500 chassis/cab. Have seen other 3500's with HD after the 3500. What option is this and what does it consist of? I ordered every heavy duty option I could find but don't know, neither does dealer, what option puts the HD on the side of the truck.
