I have read some research papers in Energy & Fuels about emissions testing with alcohol diesel blends, but I don't think anything is commercially available yet. In the papers I have read, the alcohol blends have reduced particulate emmissions pretty significantly, but slightly increased NOx emmissions. I think the eventual idea is, though, that by lowering particulate emmissions, you can make catalytic converters that reduce NOx to N2 more durable and reliable.

As to alcohol in diesel, yes that is generally a no-no. But, I've read of emulsifier additives that are supposed to overcome the lubricity penalties incurred by adding alcohol to the fuel. While I haven't read any specific data, I also wonder if the use of 100% biodiesel to mix with the alcohol would also help to overcome the lubricity problems. All in all it is interesting research, but I don't know how much will ever really come of it.
