well i am not completely done yet I still need to install the antenna. any ideas on how i can run that. is it possible to run it out the third brake light.

as for it working....the soundgate plugs right into the C2 radio connector and then power and ground. it does still say XM but i have not played with it yet

You can run it through the third brake light. I have mine coming in through the cab lights.

Just a tip, file a small relief into the brakelight and silicone around the releif when you bolt it up. If not you will slowly go thru antennas. The brake housing will press against the wire and eventually cause the antenna to fail(vibration and pressure breaks the wires inside the antenna line till failure). Mine lasted 3 months, added a releif after 1st one failed due to the pinch. Works good since!

Duratys

Its soundgate interface with a kenwood sirius tuner. Just woke up and cant remember part #s right now. Only problem ive had so far is a soundgate failure......... it happened after truck was hooked to a tech II. Coincidence?? I dunno......

IS the C2 connector the same connector where the axess or USA Spec adapters for the iPod connect? Anyway you can have them both. ALso where did you get the Siruis tuner?

brianteel
11-30-2005, 02:53 PM
yes it is where you connect the IPOD....i dont know if you can have them both. i know you can use the kenwood you can use a changer and the unit. I got mine off ebay. sirius is actually coming out with a GM unit should be availibe very soon. i am going to use the kenwood then test it against the new sirius one and see which is better. i have the kenwood 903 unit which i think is the newest one...

on a side note did you want the second nav for your friend

FWIW the OEM XM antenna can be used for Sirius. At least it works fine with the Kenwood SIR1...

How about some pics of your antenna installations, from those who've done it? My truck wasn't originally equiped with satellite radio, and I want an alternative to the stock location (Stock location = drill hole in roof. Don't want to do that.). At first, I thought about somewhere on the cowl grille, but the 3rd brake light sounds like a great idea... I just hope the longer wire needed doesn't weaken the signal strenght.

:nopics:

I'd appreciate it. I've got a stock XM antenna, but cringe at the thought of drilling a hole through the roof. It just presents a point of entry or origin for a water leak and/or corrosion.

Thoes of you who did the install through the 3rd brake light, what did you use for wiring? I'm sure the stock wire wasn't long enough. I have a Crew Cab. It's going to have to be a long wire to make it to the third brake light.

Aftermarket? If so, make, part number and where did you get it?

brianteel

it is made by directed electronics. i think it is that long i maybe wrong but i know it will reach from the center console to the roof with no problem. I have an extended cab

I have the regular siruis antenna. Mounts on the top of my cab right on top of where the rearview mirror. Right next to the top of the windshied on the outside. No cutting or drilling. I ran the wire in the black rubbery stuff on the windshield then down the door. It looks stock.

Looks just like the antenna in that link above.

Riddle me this Batman, I did the Soundgate conversion over a month ago. Today, the display now reads Sirius 1 and Sirius 2 instead of XM. I've had the fuses out a couple of times for Pred reflashes... but the display didn't change until today.

Info still hangs though. No biggie, but seems like Soundgate could do something about that...

I have noticed that the buffer is MUCH smaller than the OEM XM tuner. Doesn't take too many seconds of blockage for dropout to occur. Again, not a real biggie, but noticiable. I'd guess this is a Kenwood issue.

which kenwood do you have. i dont have any problems with it hanging yet....did yours every say XM

Oilbrnr
12-02-2005, 10:21 AM
It did say XM when I forgot and left the XM module plugged in. Duh!

The display will hang when the title exceeds the max number of characters that the display is capable of... a quick push of the info button will correct the problem.

which kenwood unit do you have? I have the 903 one. also what head unit do you have. i have the non lux touch screen. it is possible for different units different things will work and not work. the only thing i wish mine had was a key pad so i can dail in the number instead of going through each channel
