: verrrry interesting
peekok 11-29-2005, 09:41 PM noticed when i logged onto my chevy.com (which i joined when i bought the truck) that the odometer had my current mileage, WTF. then i thought onstar, they are automatically updating my mileage from my truck through onstar onto thier website:eek: . this means they definitely can access and probably are, any info they want when they want. watch out big brother is watching you.:)
DURAtotheMAX 11-29-2005, 09:49 PM See here for my feelings on whether or not OnStar can "watch" you... :)

self services 11-29-2005, 10:03 PM Mine does that also, and I dont have onstar just XM. My miles are a lot higher on the site than the truck has. Mine has been sitting for 2 months and the web says its like 4,000 more. It is a estimate for needed service to remind you.
peekok 11-29-2005, 10:07 PM i dont know about all that but ill bet any parameter my truck computers store "they" can and do see.
i always believed that no one would bother to do that but if they are using my mileage on thier website im wondering what else they can do? kinda pisses me off, an invasion of privacy?
peekok 11-29-2005, 10:11 PM an estimate. thats apretty good ###da## estimate. the site said 28,034 miles. went to the truck it said 28,034 miles. thats a $$$da^^ crystal ball.
michael nelson 11-29-2005, 10:16 PM they e-mail me and do diagnostics once a month.....but I authorized it.
peekok 11-29-2005, 10:22 PM theyve never emailed me. oh well if they want info they can have it.
RichLockyer 11-30-2005, 12:39 AM Interesting....
They show that I'm at 10775
My odo shows 10169, so it's not coming from the odo.
However, my tires are oversized (285/75-16), which is a 7.8% error. I installed these tires at 1032 miles, so...
10169 - 1032 = 9137
9137 * 1.078 = 9850
9850 + 1032 = 10882 actual miles on the truck
That's within 1%.
They must be getting it from OnStar's vehicle location system.
I wonder if they voided my warranty because I was parked in McRat's driveway? :D
azcrf450 11-30-2005, 12:54 AM WTF:think: I bought the truck new 5 months ago
The VIN you entered is valid but does not currently appear in the Owner Center database. Please check again that the VIN you entered is in fact your VIN. If you purchased your vehicle within the last 60 days, your VIN will not be in our system at this time.
RichLockyer 11-30-2005, 12:57 AM I get the same thing.
I couldn't even register on myGM as a 2006 until tonight.
It is very interesting that, without the VIN, they still got the mileage that close.
azcrf450 11-30-2005, 01:01 AM You had to enter the mileage manually didnt you? i did
RichLockyer 11-30-2005, 01:06 AM When I bought the truck, but I had totally forgotten about that site since I logged on last August.
That 10775 number came from somewhere other than me.
I have been keeping my dealership's "idriveonline.com" site current, but it underestimates my mileage.
azcrf450 11-30-2005, 01:06 AM thats creepy, its big brother
thats creepy, its big brother
And the aliens that control big brother!!! :muahaha: ):h
Diesel_Day_Dreamin 11-30-2005, 08:57 PM You fools! Onstar tracks ALL your movements via satellite. They don't need to be able to read the odometer! That's why I ordered my truck without Onstar! Disconect the antenna lead labled GPS... then check your mileage in a month. Bet it doesn't gain a mile. If they aren't tracking you, how do you think they know your location if you call in lost? The onstar box doesn't have a GPS lead on it for nothing. :secret:
bhinrichs 11-30-2005, 09:10 PM If they are doing it by GPS tracking, then their algorithm is crap. I checked mine, they have 83,193. Mine only has 76,668. That is a terrible error, and mine is totally stock, no tire mods or anything.
peekok 11-30-2005, 09:12 PM better off diconecting it anyway. if you have a 2004 or older model youll have to pay onstar for a three year subscription upfront and pay for the labor to install an upgrade kit to digital after feb 08:eek: . they can kiss my @@s
Diesel_Day_Dreamin 11-30-2005, 09:25 PM If they are doing it by GPS tracking, then their algorithm is crap. I checked mine, they have 83,193. Mine only has 76,668. That is a terrible error, and mine is totally stock, no tire mods or anything.
What site you guys logging onto to see your mileage? I should look mine up. It would be interesting to see what mine says, being they have no way of telling my mileage. I took it in for the first free oil change at 3641 miles. It hasn't been back since (I do my on maintenance). The only way they can track my milage is to take the mileage and time (time it took to reach those miles), at the oil change, get an average, and multiply it from there.
peekok 11-30-2005, 09:31 PM go to www.mygmlink.com (http://www.mygmlink.com) and start an account with your vin then check it for a couple days as you drive.
Diesel_Day_Dreamin 11-30-2005, 09:32 PM Never mind... I see... My Chevy.com... I don't have a Chevy... Do they have a MY GMC.com? :D
Diesel_Day_Dreamin 11-30-2005, 09:33 PM I type too slow...
Diesel_Day_Dreamin 11-30-2005, 09:39 PM Well there it is... They ask you current milage, miles driven per day, etc.etc. I'm putting in very low mileages just to mess with them. Lets see what happens. Asking if Onstar equipped too. That's probably the green light for them to check mileage via Onstar.
peekok 11-30-2005, 09:43 PM if you dont have onstar i dont know how it will work? or am i not understanding something? didnt you say you ordered your truck without onstar?
Diesel_Day_Dreamin 11-30-2005, 09:54 PM if you dont have onstar i dont know how it will work? or am i not understanding something? didnt you say you ordered your truck without onstar?
Correct... Ordered without Onstar.
The site tells me I have 6621 miles on my truck, the same mileage I just entered (6621 is a fictitious number, actual miles is 10,383). Another thing fishy... My dealer never entered my first oil change into the system. Or at least it doesn't say so under "Service History". What gives? I'm pissed now... They lead you to believe that dealer service will keep your truck within warrantee. If they don't keep track of it, it's no different then doing it myself! Either way, I have NO proof it was ever done!!
