They still had 4 more in stock when I placed my order this morning. I don't think it is a limited time special, but call to be sure.

Goodluck!

I didn't think to ask about blems. usually those are kept by Weld and sold off on EBAY. I'll check them out when they get here next week and let you know. Of course, you can call them and ask that question.

I've been eyeing these wheels for a long time but just couldn't get myself to part with that much dough... At $189 my decision was made for me. Now I have to come up with a story for the wife.. something like, It was so cheap I couldn't avoid buying them and can sell them for that on EBAY at that price if needed...

Heard about these and it does make you raise an eyebrow. How are they selling NEW $460 wheels for $189 unless they are seconds? Don't get me wrong, if they are seconds, you probably can't find the flaws. As long as they still carry the 5 yr warranty, who cares. I would like to pick up one for my spare and a couple for a matching enclosed trailer for that price. I got a deal on mine for $350 ea vs. the $450+ I was quoted everywhere else.

i purchased my weld renegades on ebay, 17 x 8.5 for 700 shipped. I was leary but thought what the heck. they were blems, but you cannot tell. these wheels for 189 are almost surely blems. if they are anything like mine, you will be very pleased. they should also come with the 5 year warranty, mine did http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Also beware there is a chrome peeling problem with some batches of the Evo wheels. I know because I'm having a complete set (4) 17x8.5 Weld Evo Renegades replaced under warranty tomorrow. Only 6 months old and 3 out of 4 of the wheels have chrome peeling on the inside of the wheel. The wheels have a 5 yr chrome warranty so the place I bought them from (Les Schwab here in Oregon) are replacing all of them no questions asked ... they didn't even want to look at the wheels and told me they have had to replace several sets over the last few months. Apparently Weld moved to a new plant last summer and the rumor is they sped up production prior to moving to built up stock and apparently their chroming process/quality suffered. Just make sure the wheels are covered by the Weld warranty in case the chrome starts peeling.

Wheels are covered with 5 year warranty according to the shop selling them. i know the blems also carry the 5 year warranty.

I'll update you all next week when they arrive. For that price, i don't care if they are blems, so long as the blem isn't horrible. I didn't think to ask, but I'm sure someone on this forum will and update us all.

I see that Weld offers those wheels with 2 choices of backspace.

Which backspace did you order?

Thanks, Steve

I beleive 4.5" is the most BS you can get with the Evo wheels. With 4.5" BS your wheels will stick out about 1" further then stock.

I spoke to Matt yesterday and asked him if the rims were blems. He confirmed that they were not blems. He did say that if you wanted to spend less, they can get you blems but didn't have any at the moment.

As far as backspacing, I believe he said that the 4.125's were for chevy and that the 4.625's were for the Dodge trucks. Hope he was right...

Correction; the 4.625 backspacing is for GM.Edited by: SteveCA

My earlier post (above) was based on the specs I was viewing in the Weld brochure I downloaded ... can't remember if I was only viewing 17" wheels.

Update:

Recieved wheels today. Every wheel was a blem with quite significant defects in the finish. I spoke with Matt and he said they should not have shipped blems, that there had to be a mix up in the boxes (boxes were not labeled as blems).

Said that they will get wheels shipped direct from Weld if they couldn't get me another set quickly from their stock (he said they showed no stock in 16 by 8's at the moment).

Stay tuned. they are saying all the right things and I have no reason to doubt, but I'll wait until I see perfect wheels before putting this to rest.

He did say that a lot of orders had come in recently from our forum members and that they appreciate the business. Folks have been buying a lot of 17's and some 18's from them.

Let me know. Hopefully mine is the only screwup in the lot. They were quite clear that I should not have received blems, so I'm not worried. They were some awlful blems though. i'm surprised that Weld let them go out at all. One of the wheels look like they hit a curb and then rewelded and chromed... I don't think anyone would buy that even as a spare.

I also talked to Matt and he told me that they were not blems, but you could get blems if they had any in stock. He also gave me a quote on tires that about blew me away. $125 apiece for 315's BFG. Other than H2 takeoffs thats about as cheap as you can get. So Im going to cruise up there this weekend and spend some money!

So, has anyone made a successful purchase from this outfit?

Successful = You happy

From my angle, it apears that they have been dealing with blems all this time. Some blems may not be as obvious as others, but nevertheless they're still blems.

Maybe it just took someone with an eagle eye like SteveCa to find this out?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

How else can they offer such an expensive wheel at such an unreal price? Remember folks, if it sounds too good to be true...

I hope somebody will prove me wrong and tell me I'm full of sh*t so I can place my order ASAP!

Hang tight until this is resolved and I'll let you know how things work out. BTW, I didn't need sharp eyes. The wheels were way beyond blems IMHO.

Well looks like they are going to refund my money because they are out of stock and won't be getting another larger order for at least six weeks. They could not get Weld to send me 4 new wheels at the low price because it is not part of a big order. Matt said that it would cost me $289 for a direct ship from Weld rather than the $189 price.

Matt said that they would call me when their next shipment comes in...

Only one problem... I now have 4 285/75/16 bridgestone Revos sitting in my garage waiting for wheelshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif. I don't exactly have the space to store these donutshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

I guess I should not have oprdered tires until I received the wheels...

Anyone need these tires in the San francisco Bay area?

I asked Matt staight out if they were blems. He replied, "Weld didn't mark them as blems." He said his boss wouldn't be back until today to tell when the next pallet comes in.

Betcha he won't! I think he knows you're too smart for their lets-sell-cheapass-blems-as-new-for-a-superduper-low-price-and-lets-see-who-takes-the-bait little gig...

Keep your tires and try to find an alternate set of wheels from a reputable local vendor.

Boy, you guys got this Matt guy diggin' for any B*llsh*t answers!
How can they not know that what they're sending out is all the crap that Weld throws out into the trash bin?
Who cares if Weld didn't mark them as blems, don't they inspect their merchandise when they receive it from Weld?
How about some Q.A. Don't they inspect their merchandise BEFORE sending it out to their customers?

I still have not read of anyone being 100% satisfied with this outfit. Buyers beware...

Damn! Them wheels sure are purty!

Worrywart,

At this juncture, I have to agree with you. The wheels I got were marked from Weld on the rim as blems ( a small sticker in the inside of the wheel )

The boxes were not marked, but as you say, don't you check what you pay for from the manufacturer? These were very obvious and in two cases, unsaleable junk http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif.

SteveCa,
Do you think a phone call to Weld is in order? I think they should know what these people are doing with their wheels. They are pretty much running a scam with these wheels and leaving a lot of people with a sour taste for the Weld name. Hhmmm...what do you think?
Maybe your bud, "Deadeye", couldn't tell the difference between new and a blem with that bad eye of his, but I'm sure glad you were able to...LOL!Edited by: Worrywart

Worrywart, do you have an axe to grind with this company? All I've seen you do is badmouth them and accuse them of running scams, being frauds, because they might have made an honest mistake.

Deadeye got a set that he says were fine, what makes you think they're blems?

HVACDIESEL got a set that he says were fine, except for one that was damaged in shipping.

SteveCA got a set that were mislabeled from the factory. The company is going to replace them for him at no charge from what I understand.

Why are you crying that the sky is falling? Are you a competitor or something?

I have to agree with Worrywart.... something sounds fishy. A couple people may be happy with their's but blems, while mostly cosmetic, can also be blems for reasons not visible to the eye. Let's wait to see how well they balance and with how much weight.

Secondly, any business of good reputation would not tell the customer to wait for who knows how long until they can order another big order to get that price. They need to ship another set immediately and eat the cost or give him another set of comparable wheels for same price.... especially when customer already has tires waiting in his garage. This game of "now there $289", "wait for boss to get back", "we never sell blems" (except for those with stickers we missed when putting in boxes used for non-blemshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif) is all too common among wheel shops looking to make the fast buck.

Just the way I see it.

I have not been as fortunate. I returned my blems and they are crediting my card. Unfortunately they don't have anymore 16 by 8's and are unable to get me any except at the higher price of 289 each. I'm not sure why they can't get Weld to ship new wheels if in fact they purchased first line wheels and got blems insteadhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif.

They did have 17 by 8.5's available for $219, but unfortunately I had already gotten my shipment of 16 inch revo's (285/75/16) from the tirerack in anticpation of these wheels.

Now they are sitting in ny garage gathering dust...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

I wish everyone the best with the wheels. I haven't had any luck with 2 new sets of Renegades I purchased retail. First set lasted about 6 months before 3 of the 4 started experiencing chrome peeling problems. Had the set replaced just over a week ago and 2 are already peeling. I'm calling it bad luck and abandoning the Renegades for polished Weld super singles. The place where I bought them (Les Schwab) called Weld today at my request and asked them why it was taking so long to get replacements. Weld told them the wait on the Evo Renegades was about 12 weeks ...without going into detail on the reason why. I may be wrong, but I think they have a chrome plating quality problem right now and are trying to resolve it. Could be wrong but I've had 2 sets of chrome peelers. Just keep an eye on the insides of the wheels ...that's where the chrome on both sets peeled real bad ... to the point where large pieces were peeling/rolling up.
