on the way to work tonight i caught out of the corner of my eye the glow plug dash illumination light come on for a split second. it was quick enough that i had to look in my owners manual to try to indentify the light that i saw. it was orange in color and appeared to be above the high beam indication light. im use to seeing it come one prior to fully starting the truck but this caught me off gaurd and i did not get enough time to get a good visual on the picture of the light, but as i have confirmed with the owners manual. it may have been the glow plug indicator. the truck was plenty warm enough but not understanding why it would have illuminated while driving down the road. does anyone have the specific reason why? has there been problems with glow plugs in the past? my trucks motor has a build date of june 04 stamped on the side of the passenger valve cover and is in fact one of the first LLY's im guessing. i looked in the gm bullitins area here on this forum but did not see anything mentioned there. is there other problems that i need to know about with this engine excluding the over heating issue which i see alot of. ---------------thanks for any help

I can't think of any reason why your glow plug "wait" light would have come on if you were fully warm. However if you have a glow plug or G.P. controller problem it will set a SES light. I wouldn't worry about it but wait and see if you have any re-ocurrances or other indications. The glow plugs are a heating device and will eventually go bad over time. I have replaced one on my 02, but it seems kind of soon for a 04......Bill

thats what i was actually doing----- i had my fingers on my overhead lamps and pushed them both in at the same time as i ,,,at that exact time noticed out of the corner of my eye,,,,, the orange light come on for a split second,,,, seems odd but if it has happened to another driver---- how many others out there are not seeing it, but it is happening??? well im sure it will not poise any problem as long as the glow plugs are operating only when the key is in the aux position and energized only as long as the computer allows them to( up to 15 seconds) i know the light only illuminates for 3-5 seconds as this is the function to tell the operator when it is recommended to start the engine. thanks for the help----------soxxs22

on the way home this morning i tried the over head console lights again and watch my instrument cluster------low and behold it happened again BUT i this time was able to identify it being the cargo lamp indicator which is also orange. hummm----well at least it was not the glow plug. im not going to worry

It happened to me on my previous truck an 03 6.0 gasser. It was the cargo light indicator.. a little scary when it first happens.
