I was considering adding a remote starter to my truck when a friend of mine who has an 04 Power Stroke who said that it wouldn't be a good idea to use it in the colder months due to needing to wait for the glow plugs.
Any ideas?

No worries...Most remote starters have a glow plug delay. I think mine is set for 45 seconds or a minute. More than enough time for your plugs to warm up. Go to a local retail dealer and get them to show you what options are available. It was Censored -12f here this morning. I keep my truck in my garage. I have it mostly for when I am at work or not at home. My wife really loves climbing into a warm truck with the heated seats automatically turned on after we go out to eat. I also have a temp sensor option. My truck will turn itself on and run for 25 minutes when it gets below -10f. Checks for current temp every 3 hours. I can turn that function on or off from my remote so I won't run myself out of fuel. Get your remote start...you will love it. Tell your buddy with the Ferd that his problems go much further than a remote starter:exactly: .

I noticed that your remote strater has a turbo timer.
At what temp does it turn the truck off?
After installing the Edge with Attitude, I wait until the EFT get below 400.
Now its not taking all that long, but in the summer it is pain to have to wait a couple of minutes for it to get that low.

The turbo timer lets the truck run for an additional two minutes after I park it. The temp sensor checks for inside cab temp every three hours. I have it set to -10f. If it is colder then that it kicks the truck on for 25 minutes. It has never come on as of yet but it only started getting cold here the last few days. -16f this morning. My truck is in my garage (55f) so it never comes on. If it stays this cold over the next week I would imagine it will come on a couple of times during the day while I am at work. Hope this answers your question:confused:

With the astrostart, the remote starter taps into the glow plug light.. so basically it won't start until the glow plug light turns off in the dash.

Clifford Matrix 3.5 also. You can tap the Glow plug light or have a delay set to wait until it tries to start. I recommend the glow plug light tap.

What can a person expect to pay for each of these alarms?

Found the clifford for 399.00 + Installation. Is this correct?

I'm not sure if Max Power wants us to post prices. I'd PM him.. What I will say is you'll be able to get a better product for less then the Clifford. Check out the 2205 and 4205.. I went with the 4205 because I found the remote easier to see during the day.. Great products.. will always get my products from Tony.

Here's a link of the astro starts.. The remote second from the left is the 2205 and the one to the far right is the 4205.

My DEI was like 375 or 400 and it has all of the above features. remote start, cold weather autostart, turbo timer that is adjustable from 1 minute to 15 (I think). I love my remote starter, I also go an automatic windshield scraper. It didn't come with the kit and it was really expensive, and it *****es a lot, but basically all you have to say is "I Do!" and you get one. Boy my wife really hates scraping windows on a lifted truck when it's cold out. :pimp:

Watch out if you go with a cheap installer. You get what you pay for. I paid a premium for my install but I know it was done right. I got soldered connections vs wire taps.

lakingslayer, you shouldn't have to pay extra for a quality install but I do agree it is important to have it done right. I never use any type of quick connectors.

yup i've had mine on for over a year, use it all year round for heat and A/C and it's never acted up once. I don't know what I would do without it.

Install is pretty easy for anyone who can solder and follow directions, especially if you go with an Astoflex. They are really nice and I've never had an issue with the starter. I do tend to fat-finger the remote sometimes and have to 're-do' a start because you have to hold the button down for a couple seconds for it to start. Great feature, and the Astroflex is reasonably priced if you get it through someone like Max Power as I did, excellent instructions and support if you go that route as well.

Thanks,
Dennis
