My predator will be in next week and I am wanting to run it on the 65 hp setting. Will this setting be the best if everything else is stock? I am looking for a little better fuel economy and just a little more power. I have about 10,000 miles on my truck. The salesman told me it would actually get better mileage on the higher setting if I drove it right. I don't won't to tear up anything though.

Thanks!:)

unless you want to spend the big $$ on a tranny....keep it at the 40 tune...TRUST me on this one

Will the 40 tune increase the mileage? I drive like a paw paw.

No, but neither will the 65.

Get a boost stick (http://www.kennedydiesel.com/categoryresults3.cfm?Category=4&SubCategory=134&SubCategory2=103). It might help if you drive nice.

How are you guys killing allisons with only 65hp extra??????

That is my question. If I don't dog it out all the time is it still going to destroy the allison? I really don't won't to have to spend 4 grand on trans repair!

I got 1-2 better mileage with a tuner (hand calc). hard to believe you would do any damage on 65 just paw pawin around.

You can run the 65hp and, not hurt the Allison, and yes it will give you better fuel milage. I jumped about 3 mpg, on 65hp. I have a monitor and 65 does not even slip the tranny, but if you run the hell out of it then, later on down the road you will have problems. A while back i limped my tranny w/ the predator/edge chip, and still today if i put my predator on 120 hp it will only slip 1% in 5th, so the 65 will be fine, and you can even get on it here & there w/out any damage, but i would run it like paw paw and you should not have any problems. I don't see 65 ever causing a problem. EVER.

Maybe I have some serious luck going but I ran 110hp level for over a year, and for a few months 135hp now, and for the last month the boost stick on top of that. I have never limped the allison, and I dog the crap out of my truck. I don't even lower anything to tow up to 8k.

Maybe I have been on borrowed time for 20,000 miles but I just can't see 65hp ever leaving a mark.

A couple interesting things happened to me on this yesterday. First... The Predator shows me selections of 40hp, 65hp, 85hp, and 100hp, but when installing the 100hp tune it warns me on running 120hp. Is it 100hp or 120 hp? I also threw a 0700 code. TCM.. Is that Torque Converter Management? It was stuck in third gear when this happened after showing off the high tune to my Pop. Odd thing is I never felt anything different with the trans... it seemed to shift strong as if nothing had changed. Even after it locked into 3rd it ran strong up and down that gear. What am I seeing here?

I disagree - I think most people here will tell you that you shouldn't buy a programmer if you are only looking to increase MPG's as you will see a very minimal increase - if any. You won't get a return on your investment.
Yours is the first post I've ever seen here that claimed +3 MPG's with one.

Re: the transmission - slippage percentage doesn't tell the whole story about damage being done to the trans. Damage occurrs because more HP is added through-out the operating range of the transmission, not just when top end H.P. levels are achieved.

Thanks a bunch. I will fill a lot better about it now cause if I had to have the transmission repaired because of it my wife would kill me. I guess I will just have to keep her out of it. I let her drive it every once in a while now with it stock and she talks about the power it has so I know she dogs it out. She will really dog it out now. Hell she may tear the allison up.

Thanks

You will get better mpg w/a programmer than a chip and 3 is not he first on this site! Thats about normal if you drive it right. And my point was that in 5th gear it slips 1%, 5th is were you will limp it the most w/added power. Gears 2-4 can handle a lot of torque. And 65 realy cant hurt the tranny even if you drive hard, if you do it all the time "YES" you will do damage in the lomg run, but cant kill it w/65.

3MPG!!!!!! Yeah right. I have burned several tanks to try to get this magical increase keeping the rpm below 2k and I have not seen any improvement in mpg with the predator. I just sent in my predator for the 2.02 update and my mileage is up almost 1mpg without the tuner!!. I will say this again, I drive like a grandma 95% of the time due to the stupid diesel prices and try to get 300 miles to a tank and it is very difficult sometimes.

The nice thing about the internet is people can make outragous claims and don't need to back it up.

Exactly - kinda like "programers get better MPG's than chips"...

HOUNDDOG: Reality is don't expect big MPG gains and keep it at the 65HP tune or lower and drive smart and you should be OK.

I saw a loss in MPG when I used my predator. I run on 85 all the time. But 300 miles to a tank is no problem at all. If I drive like a grandma I can get to 480-500 before the light comes on.

I have run the predator on 65hp for most of my trucks 13k miles. I have also ran it HARD "lots of boosted 2wd launches, burnouts, fishtailing, and WOT shifts into 5th up to 115mph" quite a few times on 85hp and 100hp tunes. I have yet to limp the tranny, so I would say that 65hp would be safe. Also, when I first got my truck I was getting 18mpg highway, now I consistently get 21mpg highway. I wouldn't contribute all of this to the Predator as the motor has broken in since then and I have blocked the EGR, and went with a catless exhaust, but im sure it helped a little.

YEAH!!!! 3 MPG, w the predator, Chips kick in when the temp is at 180 or someting like that, as to the programmer being a computer re-write, Also this is on a LB-7, motor not LLY, But if you take your cat off you "Could" see the same. Do your homework before you criticize, someone else telling the truth!!!!.

so i too thought the same.....then out of nowhere WHAM into 4th LIMP.

suncoast pulled down my "old" tranny with 18,666 miles and the 4~5 clutch was toast as was the 1~2 clutch (joe was impressed)

If you LB7 guys get that nice of a gain from a tuner then I really messed up by not buying a used one.

No attack man!!

I'm sure you are here to learn and gain knowledge just like myself. I just have a hard time with a 3 mpg gain. If your tuner gives your LB7 that kind of gain then great. A 3 mpg gain from a tuner will not be the norm in this forum.

For those w/LLY they may /maynot see a that much of a gain, do to the cat. But my friend with his 04 LLY strait piped w/no cat, jumped almost 3 mpg, w/ the hypertech, and exhaust, and my dads o5 cc.sb. w/the predator jumped a steady 16.9 to a 19.5 Before you go on and say people are stupid or perty much to that effect! Just because you are not getting that kind of milage, does not mean some one else is not!!!
