I've got a about 50 gallons of "non road use" diesel left from the fall that I used in equipment here at the house. Will it hurt the truck to use it up?
I would just hate to have it sit here and go bad if it wouldnt hurt to run it.
Thanks..
You can use it. It won't hurt your truck. Just hope you don't get caught with it:eek:
Is it red? If it's off road fuel, at least in Oklahoma and I think it's a federal thing, green fuel is for highway (which is taxed) and red for offroad? Won't hurt the truck, but it will hurt your pocket book if you get caught with it in your tank. Might want to look into it before you put it in your truck.

Off road diesel is not like gasolene as will keep for up to one year without "going bad". When you start to use your off road equipment next spring add 50 or more fresh gallons to the old fuel and run it. Usually I top off my farm diesel fuel and road fuel tanks the end of November as most years the fuel price is lower at this time than it will be in the spring. I will use this fuel into the middle of the summer (if it will last that long) then add more. I use Soydiesel.

Yes and I have a friend who told me last night that a road check was setup outside their gravel plant exactly for this purpose. They don't cheat so he had no problem but he also told me of people getting big fines for getting caught with the red in. I know it sucks but good luck...

Yeah, and no cops when you see a lady by herself at night with a broke down car or flat on the side of the road. Seen em drive by many times and then stop to help cause I feel bad and think the cop is a loser. :offtopic: sorry:rant:

Here is a deal about the law the gives them the right to look. This does not contain anything about the fines if cought,
60603. (a) Officers or employees of the state, upon presenting appropriate
credentials and a written notice to the owner, operator, or agent in charge, are
authorized to enter any place and to conduct inspections in accordance with
paragraphs (1) to (6), inclusive.
(1) Inspections shall be performed in a reasonable manner and at times that
are reasonable under the circumstances, taking into consideration the normal
business hours of the place to be entered.
(2) Inspections may be at any place at which taxable diesel fuel is (or may
be) produced or stored or at any inspection site where evidence of activities
involving evasion may be discovered. These places may include, but are not
limited to, any terminal, any diesel fuel storage facility that is not a terminal,
any retail diesel fuel facility, or any designated inspection site.
(3) A designated inspection site is any state highway inspection station,
weigh station, agricultural inspection station, mobile station, or other location
designated by the state or the Internal Revenue Service to be used as a
diesel fuel inspection site. A designated inspection site shall be identified as a
diesel fuel inspection site.
(4) Officers or employees may physically inspect, examine, or otherwise
search any tank, reservoir, or other container that can or may be used for the
production, storage, or transportation of diesel fuel, diesel fuel dyes, or diesel
fuel markers. Inspection may also be made of any equipment used for, or in
connection with, production, storage, or transportation of diesel fuel, diesel
fuel dyes, or diesel fuel markers. This includes any equipment used for the
dyeing or marking of diesel fuel. This includes the books and records kept to
determine tax liability.
(5) Officers or employees may detain any vehicle, train, or vessel for the
purpose of inspecting its fuel tanks and storage tanks. Detainment will be
either on the premises under inspection or at a designated inspection site.
Detainment may continue for a reasonable period of time as is necessary to
determine the amount and composition of the diesel fuel.
(6) Officers or employees may take and remove samples of diesel fuel in
reasonable quantities as necessary to determine its composition.
(b) Any person that refuses to allow an inspection may be fined one
thousand dollars ($1,000) for each refusal. This penalty is in addition to any
other penalty or tax that may be imposed upon that person or any other
person liable for tax or penalty.

I run red, but I put it in my auxilliary tank in the bed which basically looks like a toolbox because it has one on top. I plumbed the thing with an electronic valve that sends fuel straight from the tank and returns it back to the tank when I am using it. That way no red ever gets in the main tank. Never had a problem.

i've ran red before, but it's the only thing they had at the truckstop. so i had paperwork to cover my butt. they still had it at the pumps in neb, and iowa a couple of weeks ago from the hurricane releases. there are quite of few places that sell here it in the salt lake area. i filled up tonight with B20 for 2.61, #2 2.65, and offroad was around 2.20. the station is open 24 hours they leave the pumps on, pay with credit cards. i might fill up with offroad late at night some times to save money.

Thats it, now you're all in big trouble. They have your IP numbers and will soon be at the houses of those that have confessed to running off road fuel.

We were under the impression that the "by the side of the road fuel check stations," which are all over N. Florida, are only for commercial vehicles, not for privately owned equipment. I've always driven right by those fuel check spots and have never been followed or stopped, even when it is obvious that the D.O.T. fellows have nothing to do and are sitting around whittling toothpicks.
The legal mumbo-jumbo on the prior page suggests that anyone can be pulled over by the fuel police - is that true? Has it happened to anyone on this forum?
