i hear that a lot of guys with the manuel transmision talking about how they cant get a launch with boost built up on the start when they are racing.
so when i was looking at a random catalog the other day i got in the mail it had a switch that hooked up to your breaks and locked the front breaks untill you let off. now would this not be a way to build boost for your launch. just thought i would see what yall had to say about this.

If you have an after market flywheel/clutch kit and tried this the duramax would toast you brakes. You want boost the tranny has to be engaged. What is going to slip in a handshaker?

I would say that would be the clutch or tires. It would be hard to build boost but you would really toast the clutch trying to do that.

This would be a Line-Lock. Commonly used by drag racers and people who want to do burn-outs w/o toasting your rear brakes and releasing more power to the rear wheels w/o the rear brakes draggin'. ;)

With a stick you don't need the boost because you have the rpm. Take the rpm up to about 2000rpm and dump the clutch and floor it and boost won't be a problem even in 4x4 I assure you. The autos build boost because of the load they're putting on the trans staging. With a stick there is no load until you dump the clutch, but once its out as long as rpm is up your boost will be there with the autos.

except that the boost drops every time you shift. That is why they make blow off valves to reduce the intercooler backpressure on the turbo when shifting

Sounds interesting, but if you can shift quickly you'll only loose around 3-5 psi. of boost until you go for 6th gear then it may drop 5-7 psi. Just my observations thus far. This is with a stock clutch setup though, I'm sure all the aftermarket setups are somewhat slower on the shifts.

Actually no, I can slam gears just as fast if not faster with my MACS two disc setup as I did with the stock setup. ( And I can do a hell of a launce by reving it up to about 2800 slide the clutch a bit, sidestep it, put it to the floor all the while in FOURTH gear. I have left a couple Mustang GTs sittting by doing that. Believe me you don't need boost buildup with a ZF6!:driver:
