: Hummers baja 1000
Dmax Tim 11-23-2005, 10:29 AM HUMMER Rolls Over Competition At Baja 1000 Off Road Race
GM Internal Communications, November 22, 2005 .... Both the HUMMER H3 and H2 went home winners at this past weekend's Baja 1000 race in place. The H3 won in the Mini-Stock class while the H2 was the victor in the Full Stock class. HUMMERs were the only production vehicles to finish the 709-mile race, which began and ended in Ensenada, California.
Guess they aren't as bad as everyone thinks.
diesel man 11-23-2005, 11:38 AM not so bad for that type of offroading.
joispoi 11-23-2005, 07:28 PM The H2 had really been smeared as an "image vehicle" only. I wonder if the trucks were bone stock or had some non-factory equipment.
Who would have guessed?
fool32696 11-25-2005, 11:53 PM I remember being out at a mudhole and seeing a stock H2 make passes. I was really amazed and impressed at what it was capable of at stock ride height on stock tires. I saw a lot of lifted trucks get stuck out there but that H2 was just driving back and forth like it was nothing.
ACE21 11-29-2005, 09:50 PM We raced in the Baja 1000 and got 4th place in the 7 series.
We were in the race with the orange maxiss trucks.
66supersport 11-29-2005, 09:56 PM OOhhh yeah!! A stock hummer couldn't get out of its own way!!!! They are an image vehicle. Heres a little video>> (56K beware)http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=wM7Rst8eNxQ
yamahagrizzly 12-11-2005, 08:31 PM i own a jeep and i will say that when it comes to off roading its all driver. i got 30" geo stars for tires( thats how it came) and i go through about 98% of the stuff my buddys jeep with a 4'' lift and 33" tires! he the type to hit it straight and hard. i am the type to look zig zag up the trails. so if u got some dope off roading thinking hes the **** because hes got a hummer he isnt gona go any where. get some one who knows what they are doing and allot of people will be shocked at how much the hummer accually can do!

I didn't pay 40K for my jeep. Anyway, stock rubicon vs. H2 or H3, I'll take the jeep any day of the week. Much more nimble in the bush. How many hummers do you see rock crawling?? A hand full, if you are lucky. I can pay 30K for a rubi and still have 10K to upgrade. H1's are fine, but 2's and 3's just don't cut it IMHO.
dh515 12-12-2005, 12:34 AM I've got a buddy who paid 60k for an H2 three weeks before GM did the employee discount thing. I wouldn't spend that kind of cheese on one of these, but I wish my Dmax could do half of what one of these will off road. Check out this video. I was pretty impressed.

Edit: My buddy also gets 9 mpg in his. GM screwed up by not putting the Dmax in the H2.
dozerboy 12-12-2005, 01:06 AM Well you can get an H3 for 30K. And the above vid proves something stock H2s going the same places as modified Jeeps. Would I get a Hummer I don't think so, but there ain't nothing wrong with them. I would say for there obvious down falls they are very capable vehicles.
touchracing 12-12-2005, 07:25 AM Nice vid's But in reality an incompetent driver can get ANY vehicle stuck. Who are we to judge, when we're out soup'n up 3+ ton farm trucks! I love to see vehicles doing things they were never intended to do.
DuckhunterInTN 12-12-2005, 08:31 AM This is not offroading but one pulled at a truck pull I was at and I was amazed at how far it got. Not sure why, as it isn't set up for it (wheelbase is short, power is nothing special).
richard cheese 12-12-2005, 12:57 PM The tow cap on the h2 is actually way less than what it is on my tahoe z71 because of the weight issue.
could you imagine the h2 (a tahoe in disguise) with a duramax/ally combo!!!
joispoi 12-12-2005, 02:22 PM Well you can get an H3 for 30K. And the above vid proves something stock H2s going the same places as modified Jeeps. Would I get a Hummer I don't think so, but there ain't nothing wrong with them. I would say for there obvious down falls they are very capable vehicles.
I agree and disagree: Yes all Hummers were stock. Yes all jeeps were heavily modified. No they didn't really show them in the same places (okay one or two). You see Hummer stuck in one place. Jeep succeeding in another.
Still a fun video. And no, I wouldn't bring a $55k anything into the woods. Can you imagine? You buy a brand new H2. You want to see what it can do. So you take it into the woods, and snap your front end. Only to find out: Triple A doesn't go into the woods, and GM warranty doesn't cover off road use? (I'm pretty sure it doesn't anyway).
With the right mods, you can build anything to go anywhere (within reason).
