I am driving my first real truck (diesel) so I am unsure if this is normal so I will post this question. I am sure this question has already been asked but I have read this site and cannot find the answer. I have noticed when the outside temp drops below 45 during the night when I start my truck up in the morning a puddle of oil sprays out on my driveway. It is on the driver side about 18" inside of the tire. I plugged the heater in when it got to the lower 20 just because and it did not spray. There is a noise that rivals a pump right after I start the truck. This puddle varies in size from a baseball to a basketball the colder the larger. Is this normal or should I worry? My guess is that its wetage from the crankcase vent pipe ~ or at least thet would be the general location. Why yours and not others? Have heard from some in northern clims that have had them to ice/plug up and accummulate oil so when it does melt, there is a dump. I think I recall a TSB on it.
Heard you had some severe cold down thar?

ShumDit, has the answer I'll bet, of course it has to get below freezing to have ice.
Severe cold here is 25. We had 4-5 inched of snow and they called it an Artic Blast. It was on Saturday (snow and 35 for high) and Monday I played golf 65. In Dallas if you do not like the weather Blink and it will change.
