this is called "name that part" anybody out there know what this part is and its function....its the plastic part on top the engine with "6.6 turbo " embossed in the plastic. it has a hose tied into it that feeds the air inlet or something like that.

I heard it was a reserve air supply source as the whole cover is hollow ....

Resonator. It prevents hearing an air "howl" under full wide open throttle conditions. It is not necessary, just a noise emmission device.

It hold 1 cu ft of NoS for WOT operation. It adds 1000hp when needed.

I keep coffee in mine once the engine is warm. I get some weird looks at Dunkin Donuts, but it's worth it for hot coffee all day. I epoxied a neck and lid from a thermos on there add it's kept a great seal so far (six months) I also plugged the hole in the intake tube, no change in sound...
