Yesterday when I got in my '05 2500HD, I started the engine, let it run for about 30 seconds, released the parking brake, and proceeded to roll down my driveway backwards with no power brakes and no power steering. I never knew how much pedal pressure it took to stop a truck. I was standing on the pedal to get it stopped. The truck has 6,600 miles on it. I cracked the cap to the power steerring pump and oil blew out. The level was right at the top of the filling hole. I replaced the cap and started the truck. Everything seemed o.k. I took the power steering pump cap off again and the fluid level was way down there.
Does anyone know what the problem is. The dealer has it, and I want to make sure when they call me tomorrow that I don't get the old "we couldn't duplicate the problem" line, and have nothing repaired. I seem to remember a thread noting a recall of power steering pumps related to the "groan" issue. Can anyone confirm this.
P.S. - My dealer is top notch, Mazzei GMC in Pittsburg, CA. They gave me a car to drive, at no personal expense, until I get my truck back.
