Here is the situation
My fuel milage and performance, seat of the pants, started dwindling down. I lost 2-3 mpg and the injectors started making a little noise under load and it just didn't have the umph to go up hills with my horse trailer....
Took it to GM and had the injectors checked out....just fine they report. They told me to replace fuel filter and the ally filter for a grand total of 315.00......yeah right. So I replaced the filter and no noticable difference....so looking at passanger side battery noticed when changed filter that the pos terminal was a little corroded. I went to unbolt the terminal and the whole + terminal came out of the battery.....
To shorten this up....my mpg went up and so did the sotp performance....no problems towing the trailer...
For those of you that may ask...80600 on truck weather was relatively same day to day...etc etc.

Maybe you have one of the new hybrid trucks...
It could have basically isolated the PS battery and the load at crank was drawn from the DS battery. It may take a while for the DS battery to get changed, but shouldn't have that big of effect, you might wnt to do some testing on your alt as well. Of coarse stranger things have happened....

With one bad batt. the voltage can drop too low and the computer looses its memory. When you restart it the engine has to relearn how to run every time. That is why you get the perf. loss. Once both batts. are good everything should go back to normal.

I know it may seem like a waste of money to some but I would recommend replacing BOTH batteries at the same time. They need to work together and be of equal "strength" to supply the proper power and maintain the proper charge.--------JMHO--------Phil

it is amazing how much brighter my head lamps are and the truck seems to run better and better with each passing day. The truck turns over when I am starting it much faster than before...thats a no brainer... never realized how fast it should turn over with 2 good bats. until i had 2.
I would replace both but funds say no...
Tech at GM said it has happened a lot and when I called 1800 GM they he said he has had several complaints on that happening to those batteries....I asked him why nobody looked into recall or service bulletin....I knew what the answer would be....I DON'T KNOW.....
Thanks for the replies.....

gm batteries are junk at least factory. i see it all day on new vechicles we have a room just for batteries.we do at least 5-10 a day. see many that have the bolts crossthreaded and the positive side breaks off the battery box.

Since the batteries work in parrallel the old battery will suck down your new battery, killing it quickly. Dig in the couch and find enough to replace the other POS Delco, you'll be doing yourself a favor.

Having worked with many banks of batteries for the last 25 years, If you change only one out, imho, you will cut the life of the new battery in half. You would be better off buying a second hand one at the wreckers, for now, and then replacing both when you have the funds

This is my first diesel that I will have long enough to replace batteries ( I owned a dodge for 6 months until I had a chance to drive the duramax and GM had all those rebates last summer ) BUt also have been told to change both batteries when the time comes.. My question is Does the diesel require any SPECIAL battery or can you go to any AUTO ZONE and pick them up???http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

<DIV>Any 12 volt battery with the right CCA will work, But if it were me I'd bite the bullet and spring for two Optima's, they are one hell of A good battery.</DIV>
<DIV>You can get them at Sam's club for about $100.00 each.</DIV>
