Took a dumper .... I noticed week ago the cord was quite warm but paid no attention ... I thought maybe because I was using a long extention cord ... Anyway pluged it in last night only to find no work'ie no more ....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

I briefly looked through the owners manual looking for a possibe relay or fuse .... Seen notta ...

Is there one ??

Figured I'd take the lessor of two evils as oppose to detuning for a service apointment ... Still have a few miles prior to 3/36 expires ....

I think the cord goes right into the heater Mac. Nothing servicabble except r&r.

You may want to check to see if this is the cord itself if it's possible. I do know on some other block heaters that the cord into the heater itself has a plug on the side of the block and can be replaced if it's just a cord problem, but I don't know if the D-MAX has this type of setup. A warm cord could be due just to a bad connection at the plug end. May be worth replacing it and trying to see if it helps ya out. I am a 100% sure there won't be a fuse on this due to it's run off A.C.

My cord was burnt right in the strain relief about 1 inch behind the prongs.I just cut and installed a good plug worked good ever since

I believe that you can replace just the cord. I have one that someone dropped off on my desk and I am assuming it was for my DMAX. Never know around here though.

I would suggest that you remove the cordand check continuity. A new cord can't be that much $$$$$. I think the end on it is a common plug style for many block heaters.

Good luck...

Yes I checked the exstension cord and outlet ,all tested ok ....

I'm going to have to further investigate tomorrow on the plug and wire .... I'll pull the plastic wheel well liner and investigate ....

Thanks

the cord is servicable you can replace it. it plug into the heater in a coolant freeze plug nest to the engine mount.

Mine did the same thing. After 3 troubleshooting trips to the stealer, I bought a new cord and changed it myself. With the fender liner out, it takes 10 minutes tops. Take your cord off first and most parts stores can match it up, it just plugs into the element.

That would be great if that is all it was ,and I hope so .... Hopefully Friday or this weekend I'll do just that ....

Just put all new plastic rivots in the liner too ,after the tranny install ...

Guess they need to get buggered up sooner or later ...

They also just come unplugged at the block heater end sometimes, but if you're cord was running warm it's a good indication the block heater is OK and it's just the cord gone bad. I would cut the cord 3 or 4 inches back from the plug and check for continuity with an ohmeter; might save you crawling around under the truck. If you have continuity between the hot and the neutral just replace the plug.
