Got my new Racor made Dmax filter kit yesterday from oregon fuel injection. They have it listed for $307 on their website @ www.oregonfuelinjection.com (http://www.oregonfuelinjection.com). I'll take some color photos of it later. I scanned in the installation instructions and converted it to pdf. The installation instructions are here...

This is the one that is said to be co-developed with GM and has their "blessing". I previously posted the data sheet...

Looks pretty nice - the electrical wiring is a little more involved than I expected - I didn't consider the heater relay and tie in, etc... I won't have time to install it until next weekend...

jeff,

Your links don't work.

Oregon Fuel Injection had some kits come in on Thursday and that happened to be the day I called. It got shipped on Friday so mine should be here tomorrow or the next day and I'm quite interested in what the install directions say.

Do you need the trick tool that's used to disconnect the factory fuel lines, or is that a Nicktane deal?

Both links work now... You have to pick up a cutter from your local auto parts store - it's in the instructions.

Hmm...

Going to have to go down to the airport, get in my toolbox, and see if I've still got one of those cutters...

Thanks for the info.....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Got my kit as well, from the same source. You will need one of the mini-cutters, so you can clear frame rails. Install is not as difficult as it would initially appear, just have to tie into maybe three wires under the engine compartment fuse box/contrl center.

Is the heater on all the time (that the ignition is on) in this kit?

Does anyone have info on the "Filter Guard Option" listed in the Racor advertisement that Dmax_Lover posted? Is it available, what does it look like and what is the cost?Edited by: OC_DMAX

All my parts should be in today and we have the very same thing with a much nicer wiring harness. I am also going to the sheeet metal shop later today to look at the rock guard and give it my blessing before the make a zillion of them. My price with the guard will still be less than the $307 and will have a 2 micron filter but it can be replaced with the 10 micron if you want. Mine is a turn bolt on, plg-n-play kit. You will not have to make up anything in the harness like you do Racors.

See that you guys.... pays to do your homework. I have a bad habit of jumping the gun when I buy stuff too.

Well there's one thing nobody has mentioned about the $307.00 price tag yet...

That includes the shipping and I don't think Greg's price does....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

If that's the case, there's not a lot of difference between the two. The SM at my dealership whom I've had a rocky start with, was surprised by the Racor product sheet saying to contact Racor or your local GMC Truck dealer for installation assistance as well. That's got as much to do with me buying the Racor kit as anything.

They, OFI, told me the guard is still backordered so I got on the list.

The heater is controlled by one of the the truck's computers, not sure which one, and turns on anytime the OEM heater does, I believe that's below 40 degrees F?Edited by: Zeeb

The heater is controlled by its own thermostat. And my price with rock guard will be about the same with shipping as theirs is without the guard. But either way its the same thing.

"See that you guys.... pays to do your homework. I have a bad habit of jumping the gun when I buy stuff too."

No one is jumping the gun, I knew of the "other" kit, and could have ordered it, however, when push comes to shove, even if identical, it is the Racor kit (hopefully blessed by GM) which is going to preserve my warrenty. So no amount of thread high-jacking used car salesmanship could have sold me any other.Edited by: jeephauler

Hmm... Little harsh there isn't it Jeep?

I've got no problems with Greg's kit other than the fact that it could be identified as being different than the Racor. It's got all the same components and I'd rather have his flex lines.

But it goes to the warranty thing and that's pretty much between you and your dealer's SM. Could have an out of town problem, but I don't think most SM's are quite as nit picky as mine is. I'm still not sure the Racor has GM's official blessing, but it's got my SM's blessing so that's why I went the way I did, not because I feel there's anything better about the "Official" kit.

What I would do is print the product release bulliton and keep it in the truck. Kinda hard to argue that, no matter which kit it is.

The heater is controlled by its own thermostat.

Greg

And at what temperature is that thermostat set?

Warranty? Warranty? I have not heard of one person in the free world that has had a warranty claim rejected because of a second filter. It is a free market, buy them where you want guys. I can tell you one thing for sure, there is no service as good as Greg Landuyt's. He would give you the shirt off his back if that's what it would take to fix your problem. Later! I have to second that on Greg's Service. I broke the cheap plastic bleeder screw when changing my fuel filter. Well--long story short--dealers do not carry them--they are dropped shipped from the Manufacturer.

I am stuck. I find out Greg has stainless steel screws for less than the cheap plastic ones. I call him and have some overnighted to me so I can drive my truck the next day.

Very good service!!

Greg,

Do you have the same setup without the WIF?

Which one on your site is it?

And, would the rock guard fit on it?

Since some think I have highjacked this thread I am going to start another one.
