I recently changed the fluid and filter in my Allison, its in an 02 GMC.I could not find a magnet on the filter or the tranny, guess the last time I had it changed they didn t install the magnet for some reason.Any way I ordered a new magnet from the dealer expecting to get a ring type magnet, instead I got one about 1 inch square and dealer says this is the correct part for an 02 with Allison transmission. Part # is 29532686,does anyone know if this is right and how this magnet would be installed.

Dealer is full of it. If it's a little square rubberish magnet, that one goes INSIDE the Ally pan at the rear opposite the drain plug. Take it back, get a refund. DO NOT let them sell you the ring magnet. Mine was discarded on my first filter change (I didn't even know there was one until after the fact). I called a couple of dealers - neither had it in stock. First one quoted me $19.89, second quoted me $28 - both said it would take a week or two to get it. I called an ALLISON authorized dealer, shipped it to me overnight for $2.99!!! Go to an ALLISON dealer - look it up in the yellow pages or online at www.allisontransmission.com

Glad to help, Sarguy. Most of my experience comes from making mistakes that I'm trying to help others avoid. Or as Will Rogers said it: "Good judgement comes from experience - and experience comes from poor judgement!"
