I am about to order the extra in bed fuel tank from northern tool, but i had a few questions first. It seems as though my best option is to use the gravity feed kit to hook it all up and make it work. Does anyone else have this setup or a similar set up that can give me some opinions on how well it works or what I can do that works out better. Thanks

I use an electric fuel pump and a timer switch. Works great!

bc; which box are you getting? I've been looking around at these combo boxes myself. Let us know how you end up with your install, please. Thanks...

Why I'm still looking for a combo box is that I want a deeper tool compartment. Deepest I've seen is about 10" or so. I'd give up a bit of fuel capacity to get a deeper box. All this and still remain flush with the p/u box rails. Must be a pie-in-the-sky ideal. I have specific needs to look for a deeper tool compartment. If I don't find one, I suppose I'll have to consider a replacement oversize tank in the stock location and continue with my present tool box. Have my cake and eat it, too, I guess.

rolloffhill, you stated yours was custom made. Where and by whom? A lot of what I decide will depend on the next toyhauler I buy. I have a tagalong now but if I go to a fifthwheel, I'll be looking to keep my pickup bed as open as I can. With a bumper-pull, I may enclose it with a topper. So many choices...

The electric pump just does it faster.

Well how much do these pumps cost and where can I get one. Ive also heard people talking about having to crank or manually pump the fuel into from the tank to your stock tank. I'm not going to have to do this if i use the gravity feed kit or the electric pump am I.

I got the whole setup from Zylestra, I am lucky because I live near his shop, 60 gallon fueltank/toolbox combo with install was around $1,220.00.
I love it, I can get all the way to Durango Colorado without having to stop for fuel.....now if I could only get the wife and kids to quit peeing I could make it non-stop.

Sorry I missed your post.....:o:

I got it made at a local welding shop, I told them what I wanted and the put it together....They make custom hauler beds for 2L trucks, which are similar to Western hauler beds.....

Let me know if you have any other questions...;)

If one were to use the electric transfer pump it would be wise to also connect the vent lines together so in case one forgets to shut off pump it will just return fuel to aux tank when OEM is full.
Not that it would happen to you but it would me.

I went with the 90/91 gallon box tank combo and it's pretty decent so far. I use a small pump to move fuel down to the main tank and even push it thru a small filter. I plug my pump into my 5th wheel plug, but I don't have a switch. The pump is quite slow. plus I have a ball valve to throttle it. With this setup I can drive a long way without overfilling or switching.
