: What RPM's on highway?

I'm curious what RPM's at 70mph, or higher. When running empty, not towing or hauling,on the highway. Any idea of MPG's when on highway, not city/highway combined, just pure highway when empty, not towing.
I'm just wondering what the 2nd overdrive gives you.

I don't have a fuel mileage stats for you, but it appears that the engine runs at about 1700 RPM at about 70 MPH. I intend to make a 1200 mile round trip next week, so I'll have an idea what the fuel mileage is then.

Check out this thread for fuel mileage. On a recent 440 mile trip non-towing, I had 20.9 mpg hand calculated. (with 3500 miles on the truck)

About 40 to 45 pounds after it is warmed up.

Redeagle- I'm really curious if you have to use more throttle to maintain those rpms while towing that Airstream. I'm close to making the decision to order a new CC LBZ and am also shopping Airstreams at the same time. I'm looking at a 25' Safari, but am thinking that the 28' Safari is probably a smarter way to go. How well does your truck tow your trailer? What effect does the towing have on the mileage?

Thanks, Rick Coleman

Rick,

My LBZ powered TV does a great job of towing my 28' Airstream. The trailer is within the limits of a half-ton pickup, but I did not want to be in the upper 5% of the capability of a TV, so I went with the HD. I am not sure of how to answer the throttle question, yes it takes more pedal pressure to accelerate, but then I almost alway tow in cruise mode, so I am not sure. The '06 LBZ tows it easier than my '05 LLY did. I have seen almost 21 mpg @ 65mph on a long highway run without towing, best towing mileage was 14.1
mpg @ 65 mph. Average overall non-towing is 18.8 mpg, and average towing mpg is 13.5. Both of these figures are about 1 mpg higher than my '05 LLY delivered. The LBZ truck only has 4000 miles on it, and is not really broken in yet, so it's mileage will improve.

We went with the 28' Airstream because of the overall layout, vs. the 25'. We have a 9 year old and a 3 year old and we felt the 28' was better for the family than the 25'.

The setup your are contemplating is awesome, and if I could start over, I would change NOTHING! :grd:

Well I just picked up my '06 LBZ CC/LB 4x4 dually. Drove it about 700 miles of open road at 80 - 85 mph and it turned in 13.66 mpg hand calculated. The display showed 13.8 so it was close. I did notice that picking the speed up from 70 mph really showed on the display as the milage was up around 15.8 mpg on the display until we picked up the pace, and then it dropped it down. So I think the speed has a bigger part than most people think.
