I just finished installing a pre OEM Perma-Cool filter on the frame rail. I will probably need to pump many times to remove all the air from the fuel lines. When you loosen the bleed screw and pump to prime, diesel oozes out of the screw and goes everywhere. Is there a trick or method to make this a cleaner process?

Unless you can match the threads on the bleeder screw with a barb fitting .... Screw it in ,hose it into a clear container,no ....

Has anyone actually done this? I checked the threads and compared to barbed fittings in my garage. All these fittings have a fine thread pattern while the bleeder screw is coarse.

Slide a one gallon Zip-Loc bag up around the filter and remove the screw. I think you are bleeding air bubbles so far. There are a lot of guys here with pre-oem filters. One of them will chime in. I thing the bleeder plug is metric. Later! Frank

Another method for bleeding is to add a tee and valve to the Kent Moore Gauge and bleed through the Schrader valve test port (also nice for taking fuel samples). A push button switch (http://community.webshots.com/photo/77018086/78007431FZIwJH) under the hood to run the lift pump instead of pumping the primer helps too.

There is also the JK Vacuum/Pressure Gauge (http://www.kennedydiesel.com/detail.cfm?ID=289) which looks like it could also be fitted with a tee/valve for easy bleeding.

WOW, that's A nice gauge, does it have the same quick connect that fits the OEM port like the Kent Moore?Edited by: John R

Yes, John's gauge connects directly to the OEM schrader valve.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
